Pommelin Bay

We are now on theGR®34, a long-distance hiking trail dear to the Bretons as it runs along the entire coastline of our region. On this hike, we follow it northwards and, when we leave it, cross Le Paradis and finally rejoin it to admire the Trieux estuary.

Description of the walk

(S/E) Île à Bois car park.
This island, or rather peninsula since the Second World War, is private property. At low tide, you can walk around it via the foreshore.
Take the road you arrived on towards the Pony Club.

(1) Continue straight ahead, then take the first street on the right. The street becomes a path.
At the crossroads, continue straight ahead, then at the end of the path, turn left and continue along the road.
At the Kerarzol crossroads, turn left.

(2) Take the path on the right which veers north-west and leads to a road. Continue straight ahead on this road for a few metres, then leave it when it veers to the right and continue straight ahead on the path.

(3) At the crossroads, turn right. After a sharp left turn, the path widens and leads to an old mill. Continue straight ahead on the road, then at the intersection, turn right to follow the shore.
At the entrance to a private property, the path continues to the right along the wall of this property. Continue to follow the shore until you reach a road. Continue straight ahead.

(4) At Le Castel, leave the road and take the coastal path, following it until it reaches a road. Turn right onto this road. Cross the hamlet of Porz Guyon. Continue along this road, which veers left and then continues towards Kersalous.

(5) At the intersection, turn left and, after 50 metres, continue straight ahead on the path.

(6) At the crossroads, turn left. Pass the first path on the right, then at the fork, take the right-hand path. Cross the road and continue straight ahead.

(7) At the crossroads, turn right. You will come to the D20, which you take on the left for 20 metres, then turn right at the first street. After a bend to the right, take the road on the left and continue on this road, which veers left and then right.

(8) At the next intersection, turn left towards Kergomad, then continue on the path that extends the road towards Milin Coz.

(9) Turn left and, immediately afterwards, follow the path on the left along the stream (do not take the road). Further on, the path becomes a road again and leads to Pommelin.
Turn right, then take the second road on the left. When the road makes a sharp right turn, take the path that goes straight ahead.
This will take you to the road at Kerlodac'h, where you should turn left. You will come to the D20, which you should take on the right and then, 30 metres further on, take the road on the left. Cross Pont ar Manac'h.

(10) At the next crossroads, turn right and follow the cemetery wall (on your left). Take the path on the left towards Prat Maréchal. At the end of the road, turn right.

(11) At the next intersection, take the street on the left that descends towards the sea. Admire the magnificent garden on the right with its many species of trees and plants.
At the bottom of the slipway, admire the Trieux estuary. Continue along the path on the left. Join Rue Goas Luguen, which you follow up to the left, then turn right at the top. This is Rue de l'École, which you follow to the centre of the village.

(12) You will come out onto Rue de l'Île à Bois. Turn right and then right again 30 metres further on. After 200 metres, take the path on the left which will take you back to the crossroads you passed on the way out.

(1) Turn right to return to the car park where you started.

Notes

This hike around Pommelin Bay complements the one to the south, entitled "East of the Sillon de Talbert", already described on the website. They meet at Porz Guyon (point (11) of the first and point (5) of the second).

Reminder: we are in a region where the tidal range is very high. The landscapes are therefore completely different at high tide and low tide. It is therefore strongly advised not to venture onto the shore at low tide without a thorough knowledge of the terrain (mudflats or oyster beds).

Variation: from (10), you can go directly to (12) by continuing straight ahead at the crossroads, then turn right to rejoin (11) and follow the route described to return to (12).

Worth a visit

The village of Kermouster is a flower-filled village classified as "5 flowers". This is why from (10) to (12) the route goes round in circles a little in the village so that you can enjoy the flower beds and flower-filled houses in season.

Beautiful hike.
once you arrive at Pommelin Bay, just follow the path down to the beach, as the GR trail is blocked by a landslide.

Practised in October.
A route that must be enjoyable at high tide.
A little disappointed with the scenery at low tide. Lots of seaweed collectors, which is a good thing, but it means there's a rather unpleasant smell of fuel.
To be repeated in a better season.

Beautiful views along the route and lovely paths, but a few too many small roads. The hike follows the GR 34 markings along the Trieux, but then there are no more markings. It is therefore important to follow the map and the route description carefully.
A few details:
Point 5: Arrival at Kersalou. Just before the Kersalou sign, take a path on the left (a sign indicates a rando-lodge). Continue on this path, following the description of the hike.
Point 11: Continue along a path on the left which, a few metres further on, becomes a trail on the right and descends to join Rue Goas Luguen.

A very beautiful route, offering superb views of the sea and islands, as well as beautiful country lanes.
We just missed the intersection at point 5 in Kersalou... but we were able to loop back without any problems via a path a little further on.
However, at point 9, I have two observations: after crossing the stream at Milin Coz, you have to walk about 20 metres along the road before finding the path that runs alongside the stream. We followed the instructions carefully, taking the first path immediately on the left, along the edge of the stream, but after a few dozen metres it came to a dead end.
The second observation is a little further on. The description is as follows: "Turn right, then take the second road on the left. Then, when the road makes a sharp right turn, take the path that goes straight ahead."
The road in question, which is barely passable, actually makes a sharp turn to the LEFT.

Otherwise, thank you for this beautiful hike, which began at high tide and ended at low tide, under a beautiful sun.

Terelliac.

A lovely walk on a beautiful September morning, the day after rain, with truly enchanting light.
The hike is not difficult in terms of topography. There is a slight elevation gain. Good, beautiful sunken paths or small roads with very little traffic.
The views are splendid over Bréhat, Modez and Arcouest at the start, following the GR 34 along Pommelin Bay, but also further along the route from Portz Guen on the Trieux, Loquivy and the islands of Roch ar Hon and Bois.
The western circular route through the small sunken lanes is also very charming. Don't miss the charming flower-filled village of Kermouster at the end of the route, with its beautiful 12th-century chapel and the beautiful private garden of Portz Guen.
In short, a truly beautiful walk, best enjoyed at high tide if possible. Thank you for listing it for us.
