The Talbert Channel

A short round-trip hike to explore a natural curiosity designated by geographers as a coastal spit, consisting of a long strip of pebbles that juts out far into the sea. The distance to be covered can be adjusted, depending on the state of the tide. A sweeping panorama awaits you.

N.B. This hike cannot be undertaken at high tide (see practical information).

Description of the walk

Departure from the car park at Porz Ran beach, located north of the village of Lanmodez. On the IGN 1:25,000 map, a car park is shown at the point (1) on the route, but there is limited parking available on site.

Red and white markings

(S/E) Head towards the beach and immediately turn right onto a sandy path. Walk past a restaurant and you will soon come to a crossroads marking the entrance to the Sillon de Talbert. Several signs indicate the opening hours and safety instructions.

No markings

(1) Turn left onto a sandy path lined with two ropes. Shortly before the end of this path, a sign indicates the opening hours: this is a good time to check that you are within the correct time slot.

(2) Continue along the path and descend slightly to a small channel. Depending on the tide, this can be crossed by wading or bypassed on the right. You will come to the start of the pebble ridge that forms the Sillon de Talbert.

(3) Walk north-east, staying on the strip of pebbles. You don't have to go to the end of the channel; adapt the walk to suit your mood and the state of the tide (be careful not to get caught out by the rising tide).

(4) Retrace your steps to the crossroads with the restaurant.

Red and white markings

(1) Go around the restaurant on the right and continue along the coastal path to the Porz Ran car park (S/E).
