Maa Bay and the Melanesia shipwreck

Short, easy walk along the seafront. On the west side, Maa Beach is very beautiful and peaceful. On the east side, there is a large shipwreck: the Melanesia.

Description of the walk

Park in a small car park with four to five spaces, by the sea, just before the gates marking the boundary of private customary land to the south.

(S/E) Find the path that leads into the small forest to the west and follow it straight ahead until you reach an intersection.

(1) Take the path on the left and walk about 200 metres to the beach. Walk along this magnificent beach, heading to the left: swimming is possible. However, be careful: as on all the island's beaches, there is a risk of sharks, so be sure to check with the Tourist Office.

(2) Turn back and return to the intersection.

(1) Take the path on the right and return to the car park for the second part of the walk.

(S/E) Go through the protective barrier and walk along the beach (with your feet in the water if necessary at high tide) until you reach the Melanesia shipwreck: for safety reasons, do not go inside.

(3) Retrace your steps back to the car park (S/E).
