The Château Pond, starting from Boutissaint

After passing through the park’s entrance gates and walking for about a hundred metres, the car park is on the right.

(S/E) Head to the visitor centre and ticket office. Once you have your admission ticket, the park opens out onto a wide, straight path leading into the forest.

(1) Head left along the main path. In dry weather, you can use a side path running between the Château pond and the enclosures. Make your way to the pond’s embankment. Cross over it.

(2) Turn left and cross the footbridge over the overflow weir. Immediately afterwards, turn left and walk along the edge of the pond. At the far end of the pond, on the left, cross a stream and turn right straight away, following the stream. At the edge of the woods, turn left and head up into the undergrowth. Walk past the picnic shelter and shelter. Head to the car park (S/E).

This short, signposted trail is designed to help you explore the park. You can spend the day here, have a meal or enjoy a picnic. Across the 400 hectares of fully enclosed land, most of the animals roam freely. Some are kept in enclosures, such as the European bison, on the right as you walk down the path leading to the edge of the forest, or the wild boars and their young, in the enclosures on the left alongside the pond.
A few geese, fallow deer and ducks will make an appearance if you remain quiet; please do not stray from the paths, and please respect the peaceful areas and the grassy areas, which are their source of food.
Please note that some areas may be damp. Feeding the animals is prohibited.
Of course, binoculars and a camera will be essential for this exploration.

Other, wilder paths lead deeper into the forest, allowing you to discover the full range of the region’s habitats in general, and those of the deer in particular.
The stag rutting season in September/October is well known. It offers rare and impressive moments.
Nearby is the tree-top adventure course at the Parc de la Folie Adventure Park.
Saint-Sauveur, Treigny, Saint-Fargeau and Guédelon will round off your days spent in the Puisaye-Forterre area.
