The Jaudy estuary and the covered walkway of Men ar Rompet

A very short hike that starts off the trail, following the right bank of the Jaudy estuary. It then quickly heads inland, offering some beautiful views of the sea. At the end of the trail, you can visit a very beautiful covered alley, which is well preserved.

N.B. Do not undertake this hike at high tide (see practical information).

Description of the walk

Departure from the public car park at the end of Rue Enez Hyar, north of the village of Kerbors.

This route follows two different PR® trails and the GR®34, which offers two options in this area depending on the tide. As a result, in several places, you will encounter markings of the same colour (yellow or red and white) with different indications.

Red and white + yellow markings (very rare and old)

(S/E) Head for the beach, going around a small building. Turn left and follow the foreshore, alternating between sandy areas and pebbles.

Yellow markings (rare)

After about 500 m, ignore a path that goes up to the left and continue along the foreshore. Pass a house on your left and go around a kind of wooded spur. Come out onto the path leading to the house and follow it straight ahead.

Red, white and yellow markings

(1) At the intersection that immediately follows, follow the Brestan circuit to Port Béni on the left. Climb steadily up a small road. At a fork at the end of the right-hand bend, take the left-hand road. Shortly afterwards, turn left at an acute angle and follow the GR®34 and two PR® signs along a gravel path. At a gate on the right-hand side, turn left and take a pleasant shaded path.

(2) At a fork, keep right. The path quickly gives way to tarmac. Ignore a turn-off on the right and immediately reach an intersection. Then turn left and follow the Jaudy circuit. At the fork that appears shortly after, turn right and follow a low wall on your left. Then ignore a turn-off on the left and turn right with the road.

(3) At the stop sign, turn left and descend slightly. At the three-way junction that follows, turn left towards the Dolmen de Men ar Rompet. Stay on the road, continuing downhill.

(4) When the road turns left, continue straight ahead on a path towards the covered walkway.

No signposts

At the first intersection, continue straight ahead towards the covered walkway (ignore the signs on the right). You will soon reach the Allée couverte de Men ar Rompet (information sign).

(5) Retrace your steps back to the small road.

Red and white + yellow signposts

(4) Follow the road to the right and descend to quickly return to the starting car park (S/E).

Excellent short hike. I enjoyed the peace and quiet and the numerous bird sightings at low tide.
