Around the Roche Jaune

What could be more unusual than a hike in the bed of an estuary? What could be more romantic than a walk up the bed of a rushing stream? What could be more relaxing than a stroll through the green countryside of Trégor? What could be more spectacular than a panoramic view of an estuary?
You will discover all this during this walk, which we recommend you do at high tide with low or medium coefficients (below 80).

Description of the walk

Departure: Roche Jaune car park.

(S/E) Leaving the car park, take the street to the left (south-west) going downhill. Take the second street on the left towards the port. Walk down Rue du Port to the bottom.

(1) When you reach the port in front of Café Pesked, go down the slipway to the riverbed and follow it northwards.

(2) Turn left onto theGR®34coastal path, marked in red and white, and continue north on the coastal path. When you reach Route du Palud (house on the right in the middle of the estuary), turn left.

(3) Follow the coastal path on the right. The path goes around the point and then along Baie d'Enfer.

(4) Continue to the right and follow the path to Route de Plougrescant.

(5) Turn left and, 30 metres further on, take the path on the right. After Moulin d'Arrère, the path runs alongside Lizildry Stream.

(6) Turn right and climb up following the course of the stream. Be careful, some sections may be flooded or at least very wet. Continue climbing until you reach a stream that joins the brook.

(7) Continue along the path on the right-hand side (see also the alternative route in the "Practical information" section). Follow the path down to the stream, then walk back up it. The path branches off to the left and joins the road.

(8) Turn left, cross the hamlet of Kerbastard and return to the crossroads.

(7) Continue straight ahead on the road, then at the crossroads take the path opposite, slightly to the right, and walk south. Continue straight ahead on the path until you reach a road. Take it on the right.

(9) Take the road on the left. Continue straight ahead around a right-hand bend, then take the first path on the left, towards the hamlet of Le Gall. Follow the road on the right.

(10) At the crossroads with a calvary, turn right, then at the fork take the road on the left. Go down to Pointe Jaune, then follow the road to the left.

(11) Go down into the riverbed and head north. Join the Port de la Roche Jaune and the path taken on the way there.

(1) Take the steep path marked "Départ" opposite, continue climbing by taking the path on the right and continue the ascent to the viewpoint.

(12) Your efforts will be rewarded with a magnificent panoramic view of the Jaudy estuary with the English Channel on the horizon.
Leave the viewpoint by taking the street of the same name on the left. At the crossroads, turn right and follow a stony path back to the car park where you started (S/E).

Notes

Between (1) and (2), then between (11) and (1), the route follows the bed of the Jaudy river. This is only possible at low tide and/or with a tidal coefficient of less than 80.

At (7), take the road on the left to avoid doing the circular, which shortens the route by 1.65 km.

This hike can be combined with the "La Pointe de Plougrescant" circular hike published on Visorando, as the two circular hikes meet at the bridge over the Lizildry stream (point (5) on this hike and point (1) on the other). Allow for a total of 25 km and approximately 8 hours of walking, and classify the entire hike as "Difficult".

Always be cautious and plan ahead when you're outdoors. Visorando and the author of this route cannot be held responsible for any accidents occurring on this route.

In the summer, I will propose a variation on the Roche Jaune route, keeping only the most pleasant wooded sections between fallen trees and along a stream.
I then wanted to follow the shore of the foreshore, and I had to struggle over pebbles for a kilometre before realising that I was blocked by the tide. I then had to climb back up the hillside with a steep slope (at Pointe Jaune, point 11).
There are virtually no signs for this Roche Jaune route.
So thank you to the Breton hiker and his map, without which I would have had to navigate by luck.

A lovely walk in the sunshine last week.
Between the sea and the countryside.
A little-used route on the countryside side.

The climb to the viewpoint was disappointing because the view is obscured by a very tall laurel bush.
The circular at point 7 is very pleasant to walk, and you can see beautiful blue dragonflies there.

It's at the level of the mill path that the path is sometimes covered by vegetation, but otherwise everything else is fine.

Good evening,
A really enjoyable route to explore as you get to see different landscapes, starting with a wooded path with the ruins of old
mills , a very pretty spot... then a countryside landscape with stone houses and manor houses, and once you arrive in the village, you
walk down small, sloping streets with a view of the Jaudy estuary. It's a route I'd happily do again.
Kind regards
Edith

A lovely, varied walk. The circular at point 7 is well worth doing (passing through the ruins of a mill).

Beautiful variety of landscapes: streams, small waterfalls, forest, and the banks of the Jaudy. No difficulty.
At point 5, there is a possible alternative route: descend 30 metres then turn left at the watercourse at the hiking sign.

We didn't complete the entire route, but walked from Pointe Jaune to Baie d'Enfer and then returned via the same path.
It was a lovely walk with no particular difficulties in a pleasant and relaxing setting.

Beautiful scenery overlooking the Jaudy estuary.
The existing markings in certain sections of the route, even if they are no longer very visible (except for the GR34), are not indicated in the description.
A beautiful walk!
