At Noirétable, head south of the village towards the lake (signposted). Park in the car park (local hiking sign "Le Puy de Rot"). This hike follows the route of a local hike and is marked with yellow signpost No. 12.
(S/E) With your back to the car park and snack bar, take the road on the right. At the beginning of the right-hand bend, turn left towards Les Planaux (note the signpost for this walk on the post), then immediately take the path on the left.
(1) Cross the road (be careful!) and continue straight ahead (wooden sign for "Vierge de Cassière"). Shortly afterwards, ignore the path that climbs up to the foot of this statue (no view). At the intersection with another path, turn left. Note a small, simple iron cross on the right.
(2) At the next crossroads, at the "Croisée de Peurière" signpost, continue straight ahead. Cross a road to continue on the path opposite.
(3) When you reach another path, turn left between the white barriers. Pass an old tennis court on your right, then, in front of the entrance to a private property, take the path on the right.
(4) Further on, at the crossroads, continue straight ahead. Just after a beautiful stone house on your right, you will arrive at a small road. Follow it to the left to join a wider road. Shortly afterwards, you will see a wooden sign on your left for "Pierre Branlante".
(5) Turn left and drive back to this rocky outcrop. Go around the rocking stone on the left to discover the "armchairs" and climb up onto the stone plateau where you will find "potholes".
Retrace your steps.
(5) Cross the road and take the path on the other side that heads left. At the crossroads shortly after, turn right.
(6) At a wooden sign for "Ferme de la Gilbernie", take the path on the left. Leave the farm (lodge) on your left and join a small road. Notice the old, beautiful oak tree opposite.
(7) Continue along the road on the right, pass an iron cross on your left, then turn onto the first road on the left. After about 700 metres, take the road on the right. At a cross on your right, ignore a road on the left.
(8) Take the next road on the left (sign for Noirétable), Rue de l'Aubépine (sign a little further on the right). Further on, turn onto the first street on the left, Rue du Champ de Foire.
(9) At the end of this street (stop sign), turn right towards the village. Leave the church on your left to reach the D1089, which crosses the village. On the other side, slightly to the left, take the street between a bank and a café. You will quickly reach the end of the street, which is a small car park. Go down three consecutive flights of steps. You will arrive at a much larger car park. Do not drive straight across it, but turn left to go around it. Leave the car park at the Rue Place du Haut Forez sign, turn left to cross a crossroads and continue along Rue de la Provende.
(10) Just after, at an iron cross, turn right onto Rue du Champ de Millan, then continue straight ahead on the road that continues along it. Join a road and follow it to the left. About a hundred metres further on, take the path on the left that goes down to the lake. Turn left at the bottom of the tennis courts to follow the edge of the lake on the beach and reach the car park (S/E).
