Bois de Dôle

A family-friendly route for a breath of fresh air in the Dole forest at Chausseterre. A shaded route, very pleasant on hot days. It has its charms in other seasons, too. This is a route marked by Urfé Random and the Pays d’Urfé Community of Communes with the number 28.

Description of the walk

Access is via the D1 road, between Le Barquet and Châteaugaillard. Park in the car park on the left as you go up the hill.

(S/E) With your back to the car park, take the forest path straight ahead until you reach a crossroads.

(1) Turn left, then continue straight on until you reach the next Fork in the road coming from the right.

(2) At the junction, take the sunken path on the right for about 500 m.

(3) Turn right when you reach the meadow.

(4) At the junction with the road coming from the lodge, continue, keeping to the right, until you reach a Fork in the road.

(5) Leave the main track and turn right once again. Take the path that descends (for about 600 m) until it joins the path taken on the way out, about 500 m from the starting point.

(1) Then turn left to return to the starting point (S/E).

Worth a visit

The starting point is near the Col de Saint-Thomas, which separates the Puy-de-Dôme and the Loire. Here you’ll find the famous sign reading “Here begins Auvergne, here ends France”
