Hotel Weisshorn - Zinal

After a night in this historic hotel, the third stage will take you to Zinal, a traditional village in the Val d'Anniviers. You will soon discover the Weisshorn and Bishorn mountains. At the small Bella Vouarda pass, you can admire the so-called imperial crown with five peaks over 4,000 metres high. As you descend towards Zinal, you will follow the end of the famous Sierre-Zinal race, more commonly known as the "Race of the Five 4,000s".

This walk is part of a multi-day hike: Tour of the Val d'Anniviers and Vallon de Réchy

Description of the walk

The starting point for this stage is at the Hotel Weisshorn.

White-red-white markings

(S) From the hotel, climb the small peak topped by a large cairn directly opposite. Enjoy the view. Descend towards the Toûno road until you reach a fork.

(1) Take the small path on the right and head towards Les Faches, which is signposted.

(2) Turn right towards Lac de Toûno. Follow the stream and continue to another intersection (sign).

(3) Ignore the path to Lac de Toûno and head towards Forcletta. Follow the stream and continue to the end of a mountain pasture (hiking sign).

(4) Gradually turn south-west and then south to reach Bella Vouarda, a small pass at the end of the Pointes de Nava.

(5) At the pass, follow the signs for Zinal and begin a pleasant descent to the Tsahélett mountain pasture.

(6) Near a cross, follow the signs for Zinal. After a few bends, you will reach a fork.

(7) Leave the path to Ayer on your right and continue towards Zinal on the left. Follow this gently sloping path. You will arrive at the Barneusa mountain pasture, which offers a magnificent view of the Dent Blanche and the neighbouring peaks.

(8) Stay on the path to Zinal, cross a stream and you will see another sign for Zinal.

(9) Turn right. After three hairpin bends, the path becomes almost flat again until the next junction (sign for Zinal at an altitude of 2,023 metres).

(10) After meandering along an almost flat path, the real descent begins here. Reach the entrance to Zinal, paying attention to this very steep path. Come out onto the Route des Liddes.

(11) Cross Zinal via the small Tremblan road and then Rue de l'Église. Return to Rue des Cinq 4000 and the Hotel Europe, where you will be staying for the night (E).
