Description of the walk

In Saint-Ours, park in one of the car parks near the church.

(S/E) From the rear of the church, with your back to it, take Rue du Cdt. Lucien Blanchet on the left. At the stop sign, walk a few metres to the right and cross carefully to follow Chemin des Étangs opposite. Follow this path until you reach a junction just before the underpass beneath the A89.

(1) Follow the path to the right, pass through the hamlet of La Gravière and continue to the junction with the D62.

(2) Cross carefully and continue along the path opposite. Ignore a path on the left, then keep left at the next fork in the path.

(3) Cross a road and continue along the path opposite. Ignore a path on the left, continue straight ahead along the road until you reach the hamlet of Fontaube.

(4) At the fork in the road by the wash house, keep to the right, and at the next junction follow the small road to the right, which becomes a track further on.

(5) Cross a road and continue along the path opposite until you reach a junction.

(6) Before reaching a hamlet, take the path on the right. At the junction with the road, follow the road to the left and then, at the next junction, follow the road to the right.

(7) When the road turns left towards Lambertèche, continue straight on along the GR® Red and White marked path; follow the markings until the end of the route. Cross the railway line, then ignore a path on the left and enter the forest. Ignore a path on the left and you will reach a junction.

(8) The GR® turns right at a beautiful beech tree. But before following it, you can walk a few metres straight on to see the old Espinasse quarry, which is accessible via a path on the left. Please respect the fragile flora. Then return to the junction.

(8) Continue along the left-hand branch of the GR®. After about 150 m, you’ll see some wooden sculptures by a path leading up to the left towards Puy de Tressous. You can follow this path to visit the beautiful ‘artist’s forest’ site, but allow a good hour to see the whole area.

(9) At the junction with a path running along the edge of the forest, turn left.

(10) Stay on this path when it bends to the right.

(11) Just before the path bends to the right, follow the track on the left, which widens further on and leads to the D943.

(12) Cross carefully and follow the path opposite which runs behind some houses. At the junction, turn right, and shortly afterwards you will pass a grave with a curious epitaph. Further on, at the crossroads, go straight on, then ignore a path on the right and join a small road.

(13) Follow it to the right. At the fork, keep right, off the GR®, to cross the hamlet of Le Bouchet. Ignore a street on the left, turn left at the next junction, then go straight on until you rejoin the GR® markings at a four-way crossroads.

(14) Take the GR® to the right.

(15) At the four-way junction, turn right, cross the railway line, and continue straight on along the small road which leads to the D62.

(16) Cross it carefully and follow it to the right for about a hundred metres before you come to a path branching off to the left. Follow this path, ignoring a path on the left, and once on the road, continue to a crossroads. Follow the road on the left to return to the car park near the church (S/E).
