Description of the walk

Park at the Perquelin car park, located after the hamlet.

(S/E) Join the forest road and follow it, turning right at the sign for "Ruisseau de Bellefont".

(1) Take the path on the right towards Cascade du Guiers and Source du Guiers. Pass by the small waterfall of Fontaine Noire. You will reach a fork with a wooden sign.

(2) Continue right, following the signs for Source du Guiers. When you reach the sign for Cascade du Guiers, turn left and continue towards Source du Guiers.

(3) Crossthe stream on the small duckboards: you can climb up to the spring by climbing up the rocks on the left. Then follow the path that climbs straight ahead; this is the start of the Guiers Mort strap. Reach a fork located a few dozen metres from the Trou du Glaz.

(4) Leave the path that leads to the rocky ridge, turn left at the hairpin bend and start the climb using the cables: be careful, the rocks are slippery.

(5) Leave the Barrère rope on your right, which you will use on the way back, and continue to the next fork a few dozen metres further on.

(6) Take a path that branches off to the left at a small fir tree with a yellow cross. This is the sangle de l'Arche à l'Aiguille. Continue for about 600 m, then turn right onto a climb through a scree slope that leads to the Arche à l'Aiguille.

(7) Turn back to the previous fork.

(6) Turn right.

(5) Follow the path on the left despite the yellow cross. This is the start of the Barrère strap that leads to the summit of Dent de Crolles.

(8) Leave the path leading to Pas de l'Œille on your left and continue straight ahead to reach Dent de Crolles.

(9) Head for the path that runs along the ridges, clearly marked by the passage. Continue along the ridge for a long, sublime passage and arrive at the Cheminée du Paradis.

(10) This is a narrow passage with good handholds, but if your bag is larger than 50 litres, you will need to pass it ahead of you. After this passage, continue towards Rocheplane, where the path is tricky in places as there are many trails that can lead you astray on the sharp limestone pavement. Reach the "Rocheplane" signpost.

(11) Take the path that climbs up to a small viewpoint and continue to a crossroads at Pas de Montbrun, marked by an old blue signpost.

(12) Follow the blue markers on the right to reach the Arches strap. Turn right onto the strap to reach the Rocheplane Arch:the path is exposed but passable.

(13) Turn back.

(12) Turn right towards the Col de Bellefont. Pass the Piton de Bellefont and reach the pass: admire the Marcieu and Bellefont valleys and the Lance Sud de Malissard.

(14) Take the well-marked path opposite, which climbs up a scree slope marking the start of the ascent of the Lance de Malissard. This climb is tricky due to the number of scree slopes, but it is passable. Reach the summit marked by a cairn with a metal box and admire the view.

(15) Return via the same route as the ascent to reach the Col de Bellefont.

(14) Take the winding descent on the right that leads to the Cabane de Bellefont.

(16) Continue right, following the signs for Col de la Saulce and Perquelin. Reach Col de la Saulce.

(17) Turn left towards Perquelin.

(18) Turn left and continue for about 50 metres, then follow the path on the right. At the crossroads, turn right and follow a series of hairpin bends leading to a crossroads where you should turn left.

(19) Turn right, cross the Ruisseau de la Saulce and immediately turn left to follow it.

(20) Cross the stream again and continue straight ahead until you reach the signpost for "Ruisseau de Bellefont".

(1) Continue straight ahead and follow the outward route in reverse to return to the car park (S/E).

Water source at the Fontaine Noire, Source du Guiers and Cabane de Bellefont.

Cabled passage at the Trou du Glaz

Fairly exposed path at the Barrère strap and the ridge path.

Passage through the Cheminée du Paradis (10) is a little technical and very narrow.
