Take the D11 departmental road between Épinal and Gérardmer to reach the Col de Bonne Fontaine. Then turn left (coming from Gérardmer) and park in the large car park before the rubbish bins.
(S/E) Return towards the pass and, just before reaching it, turn left onto Chemin du Blanc Faing. After about 50 metres, at the Y-junction, keep left onto Chemin des Écureuils.
Follow the green ring markings. The route starts on a small tarmac road which quickly turns into a dirt track running along the ridge with beautiful views of the countryside and forests. You will come to a cross track.
(1) Turn right onto this track and begin the descent into the forest, following the green ring signs.
(2) At the next crossroads, turn left and then right a few hundred metres further on. Ignore the path on the left leading to Rond Faing, cross the stream on a wooden footbridge and reach the top of the waterfall (which you can hear). As you approach the top of the Grande Cascade de Tendon, the path is less visible as the area has been heavily trodden.
(3) Ignore the track on the left that continues downhill and turn right to reach a wooden footbridge that crosses the stream again. Follow the now clearly visible path, marked with a green ring and a red ring, to the bottom of the waterfall that appears on the left. You will reach the parking area.
(4) Follow the left-hand track marked with a red ring, cross a stream and arrive at a three-way junction.
(5) Keep left and continue to the Petite Cascade de Tendon. Arrive at this second car park and admire the small waterfall below: a path leads to a footbridge where you can see it more closely.
(6) Go back up the access road to the car park until you reach the D11. Follow it to the left for about 200 m until you reach Chemin du Stôt.
(7) Cross the road with caution as traffic can be heavy, and go up Chemin du Stôt. After about 100 metres, turn right onto the forest track, now marked with a green disc, which climbs uphill through the woods. When you reach a hairpin bend on a country road, turn left and then immediately right onto this tarmac road. Continue to a fork where the road turns left.
(8) Continue straight ahead on an unmarked track until the next crossroads. Take the first track that descends to the right, marked with a yellow ring. Initially in the woods, this track emerges into the countryside in the middle of meadows and then becomes a tarmac road leading downhill to a few farms and other residences. You will arrive back on the D11.
(9) Cross the road with caution and, turning right then left, descend on a path marked with a green ring, yellow ring and green cross. The path descends then climbs, becomes a track, then a road and emerges in a small hamlet of recent houses at a fork in the road.
(10) Turn right onto the road going downhill and, shortly after the lowest point, take a path marked with a green ring going up to the left. You will arrive at the road serving the Blanc Faing farm. Follow it to the left downhill until you return to the initial fork.
Continue straight ahead, then turn right to return to the car park where you started (S/E).
