Start from the car park at Lac d’en-Bas and the Sagnes peatland reserve on the outskirts of La Godivelle when coming from Égliseneuve or Montgreleix; turn right after the bridge over the Ruisseau de la Godivelle.

(S/E) Take the D32 to the right as you leave the car park, heading towards the cemetery for about 800 m until you reach the start of a good path on the left (elevation 1220).
(1) Turn left. The path crosses a peat bog, then a woodland, and after a hairpin bend, joins a very wide, straight track for nearly a kilometre before reaching a junction (elevation 1212).
(2) Turn right and head towards Brion Haut and the signpost marked ‘Brion Haut 1220 m’.

(3) Take the road on the right towards Jassy. Head to the top of the hamlet, dominated by “La Motte”. Magnificent 360° views from the summit, stretching from the Puy-de-Dôme and the Sancy Massif to the Monts du Cantal (the climb is a little steep but highly recommended). Continue along the road until you reach a track on the right before the hamlet of Brion Bas.
(4) Turn right onto this track. After about 1 km, you’ll reach a wide path (crossing a small stream). Head straight on and follow the Bois du Fraud on your right. At the end of the woodland, the track joins the D32.
(5) Cross the road and take the track straight ahead. After a short uphill section, the track runs along a level stretch before descending to the road at Les Egouves.
(6) Turn left and head towards the hamlet of Jassy. Turn right at the first junction as you enter the hamlet. Just before the bridge over the Ruisseau de la Noue Haute, take the road on the left for a short round trip to the waterfalls (signposted).
(7) Admire the waterfalls, then retrace your steps to the bridge over the Ruisseau de la Noue Haute, cross it and head for the next junction.
Section offthe GR®® and the Tour du Cézallier (Tour des Vaches Rouges)
(8) Turn right towards La Godivelle. After about 1,500 metres of gentle ascent, the road descends in two hairpin bends towards the Couze d’Ardes, crosses a bridge and reaches a fork (elevation 1,178).
(9) Continue along the road to the right towards Lac de Saint-Alyre (the ‘Lac’ sign is almost worn away) and reach the lake at La Clef du Lac (elevation 1,227).
(10) Route correction: follow the signposted path straight on to reach (S/E)
