From Port-Navalo to Béninze
Starting from Arzon, a former fishing port dating from the early 20th century, situated at the entrance to the Gulf of Morbihan, you’ll make your way to Pen-Castel via a succession of headlands, coves and leafy islets. The path hugs every curve of the coastline as closely as possible, and it’s a pleasure to follow it step by step as it zigzags ceaselessly. All along the route, you’ll be dazzled by the beauty of the landscape.
Gulf of Morbihan from Port-Navalo to Saint-Gildas on the ocean side
Stage 3 of the 5-day tour of the Rhuys peninsula, from Port-Navalo at the entrance to the Gulf of Morbihan to Saint-Gildas de Rhuys, takes you past the Crouesty marina, along the coast and its beautiful beaches, and on to the wealth of megalithic sites. A short trip inland will also take you to the ponds and marshlands—formerly salt marshes—which are particularly rich in biodiversity.
Larmor-Baden - Baden The Seven Islands
From the village of Larmor-Baden, the route takes us to the Île des Sept Îles in the commune of Baden.
Most of the route follows coastal paths (GR®34).
Views of the coast, the entrance to the gulf and the islands (Île aux Moines, Île de Berder, Île de Gavrinis).
Option to add a tour of Île de Berder to this route.
Canoeing in the Gulf of Morbihan, from Larmor-Baden to Auray
A one-way route that is quite a challenge as it is relatively long, yet very rewarding. You’ll need to contend with the wind, choppy water and currents that are sometimes against you – such as between Pointe de Locmiquel and Pointe du Blair – or in your favour, such as when sailing up the Rivière d’Auray. But these conditions naturally vary with the tides and the day’s weather. You’ll admire the scenery of the gulf, the passing sailing boats and, gradually, the coastline narrowing into the ‘Loc’h’, as it’s known.
Belle-Île-en-Mer: Les Poulains – Donnant
Belle-Île-en-Mer is the largest and most majestic of Brittany’s islands.
The coastal path allows us to walk all the way round the island and appreciate the beauty and variety of the landscapes. This walk is on the south coast (the ‘wild coast’), facing the Atlantic winds; the jagged cliffs, covered in sparse, colourful heathland, paint an incredible picture.
Pointe des Poulains – Aiguilles de Port Coton
Stage2 of the GR®340, from Pointe des Poulains to the Aiguilles de Port Coton, famous for having been immortalised by Claude Monet in 1886.
From Béninze to Port-Navalo
From headland to headland, you follow the rugged coastline, breathing in the sea air and watching the boats dance in the gulf, whilst admiring the shades of blue shifting with the light. Along the way, you’ll discover the old Pen Castel tide mill and the Cairn de Petit Mont before arriving in Arzon, a small Breton town situated between the Gulf of Morbihan and the ocean, at the tip of the Rhuys Peninsula.
