Description of the walk

Departure from Place de la Mairie in Ménigoute.

Throughout the hike, you will be guided by small wooden signs pointing the way.

(S/E) With your back to the town hall, turn left onto Rue de la Croix Brousseau. Walk past the cemetery and ignore the street on your right (Chemin de l'Ancienne Ligne). At the intersection, turn right onto Rue de Sanxay. Then take the first street on the left (Rue du Vieux Moulin) and, when it turns left, go straight on and you will come to a dirt track.

Further on, turn onto the first path on the right, which will descend. At the bottom, turn right and ignore a path that branches off to the left uphill. You will come to a road. Cross the D21 with caution and take the path opposite, slightly to the left.

Continue straight ahead along the path. At the T-junction, turn right, then at the next junction, turn left and join a road. Follow it to the right and at the crossroads, continue straight ahead (Chemin de la Martinière). Ignore a street on the left (Rue des Hirondelles) then, at the next T-junction with Rue de la Roseraie, turn right to reach Place de la Mairie (S/E).

Notes

Worth a visit

The Ménigoute International Ornithological Film Festival is one of the world's major wildlife film events. The first edition was held in 1985. The Ménigoute Festival is organised by the Mainate association (Ménigoute animation internationale nature environnement).
Every year, the Ménigoute Festival offers the opportunity to discover the latest wildlife documentaries, most of which are exclusive to France. The jury is made up of film and environmental professionals.
The event offers activities for all ages over a six-day period.

Here is a description of the exhibition:
From weasels to bears: the carnivores of France. Who knows what a common genet is? Who can tell the difference between a marten and a stone marten?

Small carnivores are little known, and this lack of knowledge leads to many misunderstandings. Hunted for their fur, some have narrowly escaped extinction, such as the European mink. Accused of raiding chicken coops, spreading disease and digging up the soil, small carnivores are still ruthlessly killed today. Yet they play an essential role in maintaining ecological balance and regulating rodent populations. To feed their litter, a pair of foxes capture thousands of field mice every year. Forest cats, stoats, weasels, martens and badgers are valuable allies to agriculture. Through forty photographs, this collective exhibition showcases these free and wild animals of our countryside.

The walk is short and has the dual appeal of passing through some truly beautiful sunken lanes and, in 2023, offering the chance to see numerous photographs of the wild Bugeay region by photographer Joël Brunet displayed on large panels. There were few people on this walk as it was during the Ménigoute festival.
