A walk through fields, woods and along the river at Pontaubert

Park in the car parks in the centre of Pontaubert.

(S/E) Start by walking towards Vézelay. At the first junction, take the D3 on the left towards Island.

(1) After crossing the small bridge, a path opens up on the right towards the fields. Continue along the path to join the road after the cemetery heading towards Island.

(2) In the village centre, turn right, then after 150 m turn left before the town hall. Follow the road downhill to the wash house.

(3) Turn right and, after about 900 m, look out for a path starting on the left.

(4) Take this path and walk down alongside a stream.

(5) At the crossroads, keep left to join the yellow markings. Continue towards a road near the hamlet of La Courcelle.

(6) Turn left, cross a road and continue straight on to follow a path through the Bois des Brosses towards the north-east. Continue for several kilometres.

(7) On leaving the woods, turn right onto the forest track, then immediately left to join a road.

(8) Follow it to the left, passing a campsite. Once you reach the edge of the woods again, turn right and head down towards the River Cousin.

(9) At the bottom of the descent, turn left to follow the path along the river. When you reach a bridge, a sign advises you to cross it and rejoin the path at the next bridge. Please note: if you continue, the path is technical and requires climbing over slippery rocks (route choice).

(10) Once back in Pontaubert, turn left to return to the car park (S/E).

Two old mills by the river can be seen from the opposite bank. They have been converted into a hotel and restaurant.
