Étang du Villerain - La Vigotte

This hike is accessible for the whole family. We did it with our 6- and 12-year-old children, who walk regularly. Along the way, you will discover ponds near Girmont-Val-d'Ajol.
Two-thirds of the way along the route, you will have a very pleasant view of the Moselle valley.
Enjoy your walk. Please note that the ponds are private property, so please respect these areas.

Description of the walk

Departure: accessible by car with parking at the starting point at Étang le Villerain, not far from the Hôtel-Restaurant La Vigotte.

(S/E) Walk along the Étang du Villerain on your left and follow the path marked with the Anneau Bleu (Blue Ring). A few dozen metres after the pond, turn right and continue to follow the Anneau Bleu markings to begin the descent.

(1) After the descent, cross the small stream (be careful, the small bridge is not in good condition) and take the path on the right. Pass close to the old Les Faignes Noires farm on your right. Continue following the Blue Ring markings.

(2) The path turns sharply to the left at the intersection. Turn left and follow the Blue Ring and Green Ring markings.

(3) At the next intersection, turn left onto the tarmac road towards Étang de la Molllière: go straight ahead. Walk along the right-hand side of the lake.

(4) Turn left at the next intersection towards Plain Pré and Étang Coke, continuing to follow the blue ring markings. Pass Étang Coke and arrive at the D57.

(5) Cross the departmental road and follow the Red Triangle trail on the left to the intersection, with the D57 road on the left and a pond on the right.

(6) Follow the small tarmac road marked with blue rings, which climbs slightly. Pass close to the Plumenco sheepfold.

(7) At the intersection, turn left, still on the tarmac road, and continue to the D57.

(8) Cross this road and follow the road (Hôtel restaurant la Vigotte) straight ahead to the Étang du Villerain car park (S/E).

We followed the blue circles at the end so as not to walk on the road, which was also good. A practical trail for young walkers (2 hours 15 minutes instead of 2 hours 45 minutes). You can extend the walk by doing the whole blue circle. Pleasant, with views of the hills, and not very busy.

A pleasant route mainly through forest; the last section back to the car park is on the road, with little traffic.

Nice walk. Just a bit of a hiccup at the start, parking in the first car park led to a mistake and an extra lap around the pond 🤣

A pleasant walk connecting several beautiful ponds with a few scenic viewpoints. Despite the inclement weather, the forest paths were passable.
