Amidst vineyards and streams to the west of Arthez-d’Armagnac

A lovely walk, over hills, sometimes quite sunny, through vineyards and alongside streams, with some lovely views.

Description of the walk

Park in the car park at the Domaine d’Ognoas (just outside the village of Arthez-d’Armagnac).

(S/E) Turn your back on the estate’s large gate and take the small road (D101E) heading south-east, following the vineyards. Turn left onto the Chemin du Presbytère.
At the end of the road, turn right to pass between the church and the town hall, and continue to the Route de Villeneuve. Turn right again.

(1) Turn left onto a grassy track (just before leaving the village). Carry on straight ahead, alongside the vineyard, until you reach the Route de Perquie. Turn right and cross the bridge over the Gaube stream.

(2) Leave the road by turning left onto a track leading to the Étang de la Gaube; turn left and follow the bank towards the mill. Head down into a grassy area below the weir, cross the footbridge and take the steps. Stay along the edge of the pond, walk round it and return to the previous crossroads.

(2) Turn right, cross the bridge, and head up (to the right) along the Chemin de Berdots. You’ll reach another junction after passing under the power line.

(3) At the end of the tarmac road, turn and head gradually down to the right.
At the bottom of the valley, cross the footbridge over the Ruisseau de la Gaube and head up this wide path, which turns into a road. When you reach the hamlet of Pommiés, continue to the right along the road, Chemin de Pommiés.
Pass in front of a large high-voltage substation.

(4) Turn right onto a grassy path, with the gable end of a house in view, and continue through the woods.
Cross the footbridge over a small stream and head gradually uphill.

(5) Turn right onto the Route d’Arthez-d’Armagnac (D354). Go round the Météra poultry farm and continue along the road.

(6) Turn left onto a grassy path opposite a house, almost at the bottom of the Gaube Stream valley. This winding path runs along the stream, overlooking it.

(7) When you see the metal barrier at a bridge over the D101, turn and head uphill to the right towards the Route de Villeneuve. Turn right onto it.

(8) Soon after, turn left onto a wide farm track; climb the hill and turn left.

(9) Take a slight left-then-right turn and enter the forest. Stay on this track until you reach the Chemin des Ponchons.
Turn right and stay on the road to reach the car park in front of the Domaine d’Ognoas, amongst the vineyards (S/E).
