Description of the walk

Park your car in Morey-Saint-Denis, along Rue de la Combe, from the junction with Rue de la Bidaude.

(S/E) Walk up Rue de la Combe, which quickly turns into a track. When the track turns right, continue straight on along the path at the bottom of the valley. This path, marked in yellow, leaves the valley via steps (steep section) and then heads north-east (a slightly challenging section), offering a beautiful view of the valley and the hillside.

(1) On the plateau, leave the marked trail and take a grassy path to the left (west), which joins a small road.
Take this road to the left and pass the Mountain Farm equestrian centre. As you leave the centre, turn left onto a path running alongside a pasture.

(2) After passing under a power line, turn sharply left then right onto a path through the undergrowth, marked in yellow again. Keep right at the fork and continue to the junction with a wide track.

(3) Continue straight on: sign for the Félix Batier Trail, very difficult descent. Take the second path on the left, downhill, still marked in yellow, to the splendid viewpoint located just before the difficult descent.

(4) Turn back, and after rejoining the main path, take a short detour along a path on the right to pass by a spring feeding a footbath (a basin for cleaning horses’ hooves). Continuing on, rejoin the main path and reach the wide track.

(3) Turn right onto it: signposted ‘Sentier Félix Batier’, easy route. Follow it down to the junction with theGR® de Pays des Grands Crus.

(5) Follow it to the left, heading north. This path, which is initially fairly flat, turns right and descends steeply.

(6) Halfway down the slope, turn left onto a vineyard path which leads directly back to the starting point (S/E).

Pretty valley of Morey-Saint-Denis.

The route is pleasant, but the difficulty of crossing the path at the bottom of the valley to reach the plateau at point 1 (accompanied by two 80-year-olds who are experienced walkers) means that I would not classify this route as easy.
The rest of the walk is indeed easy.

The hike is very pretty and very enjoyable. We did it without any difficulty. Just be careful at the beginning if you have young children, as there may be a hazard on the path where the edges are very close.
Also watch out for dogs accompanying horse riders from the nearby Mountain Farm centre. Their golden retriever attacked our boxer for no reason and bit him twice. The owner didn't even stop and, despite a call to the centre, didn't bother to check on our dog.
To sum up, it's a beautiful walk, but beware of the dogs running loose from Mountain Farm and their owner

The exit from the Morey-Saint-Denis valley and the subsequent section above the valley are certainly a bit challenging, as mentioned (the only tricky part of the hike), but there’s no question of rock climbing: I did it with a group of pensioners whose average age was around 75. And just after that, when you leave the yellow markings, if you follow the GPS track carefully, you reach the road at a point where the fence can be lifted using the handles.

An easy walk after a slightly steep start. Very clear route description. Often shaded, but with some lovely views over the vineyards!

This hike is far from easy! Right from the start, it’s more like a climb, and then you’ll need to be prepared to climb over an electric fence. In short, give it a miss if you’re not fit.

A good option for a short hike.
However, after the initial climb, I had a bit of trouble finding my way and had to take an alternative route as I couldn’t reach the marked path due to fences around the riding centre (which I eventually climbed over).
The rest was perfect: mostly shaded, pleasant and not particularly difficult.

A lovely hike that’s moderately challenging at the start but then fairly easy.
The views are magnificent, and the path is mostly shaded.
Highly recommended.
