Between Lake Pont and the Burgundy Canal

Park in the car park at Brianny Town Hall.

(S/E) Head due north on the D10H towards Montigny-sur-Armançon until you reach the chapel on the left.

(1) Opposite the chapel, turn right onto the path leading down towards the Armançon.
Cross the Armançon via the footbridge, then continue along the Bibracte-Alésia path marked in yellow and blue. You will reach a Y-junction at the top of the hill.

(2) Turn left, staying on the Bibracte trail. You will reach a crossroads with four perpendicular paths.

(3) Leave the Bibracte trail and turn left towards Montigny-sur-Armançon. Continue on to reach the Ruisseau de la Prée.

(4) Cross it via the stone footbridge, and head up into the village of Montigny-sur-Armaçon until you reach the junction with the D10.

(5) Cross the D10 and take Rue de La Vie des Barrey, following it until Rue de la Fontaine Saint-Marc, where you turn left. Then turn left into Rue de la Chaume, leaving it to take a cul-de-sac on the right. Continue to the end of this cul-de-sac.

(6) Turn right onto the Sentier des Oiseaux, marked with a yellow sign to the right of a private gate.
Follow this path to the shore of Lac de Pont and turn right onto the Sentier du Tour du Lac.
Follow the lake’s edge, still following the yellow markings. At the boat launch area, stay on the path that runs alongside the lake. Reach the confluence with the Ruisseau de Pisserotte.

(7) Turn right, staying on the Chemin des Oiseaux, to follow the Ruisseau de Pisserotte.
Follow this path to the tarmac road.

(8) Turn left towards the entrance to the Montigny-sur-Armançon woods.

(9) Turn right and walk along the edge of the woods. Leave the woods at Les Champs du Fourneau. Continue south-east until you reach the junction with the D970 at the entrance to Villeneuve-sous-Charigny.

(10) Cross it to enter the village via Rue Chauval and turn right, at the well, onto Rue Lierre until you reach the village exit.
Turn left onto the tarmac path known as Chemin des Mais, then right at the wash house and continue to the Canal de Bourgogne.

(11) Take the towpath on the right, without crossing the canal, to Lock No. 15 at Braux.
After the lock, continue for 100m along the towpath.

(12) Turn right to cross the D970 road immediately and rejoin the Bibracte Alésia trail, marked with yellow and blue signposts, slightly to the left, on the edge of the Bois de Braux.
Follow this path, taking care to avoid the ruts as you cross the woods throughout your journey through the Braux woods. Reach the four-way junction you passed earlier.

(3) Take the opposite route to the outward journey to return to the Y-junction you also passed on the way out.

(2) Turn left to walk alongside the Armançon at a distance; at the road, turn right, cross the Armançon, enter Brianny via Rue de Braux and continue to the town hall car park (S/E).

- No public water points.
- No food or drink facilities along the route.
- The path to Lac de Pont involves steps which can be slippery in wet weather.
- Watch out for roots and protruding stones on the path bordering Lake Pont.
- Shelters are available at the edge of Pont Lake, in the boat launching area.
- Plenty of shaded areas for breaks.
- Easy hike; good walking shoes and poles are required.
The environment you will be passing through on this hike is fragile. Take care of the flora and do not disturb the local wildlife. Take your rubbish home with you and pick up any you find.
As there is a slight elevation gain and some sections exposed to the sun, don’t forget to bring water and food.
