Park in the car park below the castle.
(S/E) Head south along the ramparts to walk around the castle. Enter the village through an old gate.
Pass in front of the Church of Saint John the Baptist (closed: to visit, contact the Association les Amis de Mont Saint-Jean)
Walk down past the cemetery, go through another gate and follow the ramparts. Walk past the vault.
(1) Turn right onto Grande Rue, passing the town hall and the post office. Take the road to the left of the medieval restaurant and follow Rue des Bergeries. At the exit of Mont Saint-Jean, take the path on the left and pass the glass recycling containers.

(2) Turn right onto a path. Follow this grassy path, which is bordered on both sides by a country hedge.
(3) At the intersection of the path and the road, take the path on the left towards Charny. Pass in front of the barns (ruins to visit)
The dirt path passes through woods. The markings are still yellow and green. Continue along the same path, ignoring a Y-junction on the left. Walk to a T-junction.
(4) Turn right. Continue straight ahead down the path.
Leave a path on the left and take the next one on the right.
Another T-junction with a few isolated trees.
(5) Turn left and walk for 100 metres. Continue straight ahead towards Charny, whose bell tower can be seen in the distance (ignore a path on the right). When you reach Charny, take the first stony path on the right. Walk to a T-junction.
(6) Turn left along the woods. Cross the Mont Saint-Jean - Charny road and go down the path through the woods.
Continue on the left and carry on until you reach the main road.
(7) Take the D117 on the right. Continue along a path on the right that climbs uphill and joins the telecommunications pylons towards Croix Saint-Thomas.
(8) At the intersection of the roads, take the path on the left.
Cross a tarmac road. Cross another tarmac road, turning left. Ignore a path on the right.
(9) At a T-junction, turn left for 100 m, then turn right as indicated by the signpost. Go down the hill.
(10) Continue on the left, then turn right at a crossroads.
Off the marked trail
Pass by the Moulin de l'Étang. Take the fairly steep path on the left that climbs up to Mont Saint-Jean. Continue on the right, then left to reach the fork in the road from the outward journey.
(1) Return to the car park via the castle ramparts (S/E).
