The route starts from the car park at the Seibelseckle ski resort. The resort is served by a bus from Achern (timetables vary by season).
(S/E) From the car park, follow the Westweg path towards Untersmett until you reach a nearby crossroads.
(1) Turn right towards Kieneck and continue to the Sensteig junction.
(2) Turn sharply left towards the Bismarck Tower. At the T-junction, turn right onto the Westweg, marked with a Red Diamond, and shortly afterwards turn right again. Cross the bog along a path that is partly paved and partly over a wooden footbridge. Head towards the wind turbine. You will reach a fork in the path.
(4) Turn left to reach the Bismarckturm tower at the summit of the Hornisgrinde. From the top of the tower, there is a panoramic view of the Black Forest and the Rhine Valley.
(4) Return to the fork in the path.
(3) Carry on to the left towards Untersmatt until you can see the telecoms tower.
(5) Just before the tower, take the path on the right. Turn right towards the Ochsenstall restaurant and head towards it.
(6) Turn left onto the path just before the Ochsenstall and immediately take the path on the right. Turn left onto the path at the junction and continue to the next junction.
(7) Turn right. Cross a track and you’ll reach the ski resort.
(8) Cross the resort and climb the path opposite, which crosses the upper car park; cross the track and continue along the Westweg. Cross a track. Cross the Hochkopf bog via a paved path and then via the Albercht Kirschner Schlupf. You’ll reach a track near the Pfrimmackerkopf.
(9) Turn round and return to Untersmatt station in the opposite direction, via the same path. Cross back through the resort.
(8) Take the path marked with a Yellow Diamond to the right of the ski lift. Cross the ski run and you’ll come to a junction.
(10) Turn right towards Breitenbrunnen until you reach the Horngass junction.
(11) Turn left onto a path towards Mummelsee and, shortly afterwards, left again until you reach a Fork in the road.
(12) Take the Hornisgrindepfad path uphill to the left. Cross three paths and a road to reach the summit.
(13) Turn right onto a paved path at the edge of the forest. Viewpoint over the Rhine plain. At the T-junction, go straight on until you reach a fork a short distance further on.
(14) Here you have two options:
- choose to head down to the lake by continuing straight on along the path leading to the lake. Then return to the car park at the start via a path running alongside the road.
- Turn left towards Mummelseeblick, following the route description and the trail. Splendid view of the lake. Continue along the path. Ignore a path on the left. Walk down the road for 230 m.
(15) At the right-hand bend, take the path on the left. At the T-junction, turn right, then turn left and return to the original fork.
(1) Walk down the path to the Seibelseckle car park (S/E).
