Description of the walk

Start at the Arlanc leisure centre.

(S/E) Walk past the tennis courts and then cross the river via a narrow footbridge. Take the path on the left to cross the magnificent Capartel Bridge.

(1) Carry on and, at the next junction, turn left then right towards a farm and head for a crossroads.

(2) Take the second left and carry on to reach the Barbate fortified house.

(3) In the village of La Trénardie, turn right twice to reach Le Vallard. Carry on to the left until you reach Le Montel.

(4) Turn left and you’ll reach the D907 at Le Procureur.

(5) Cross the departmental road and take the tarmac track towards Oussargues.

(6) At the third turn-off on the left, turn left to reach Gardelles (there’s a magnificent view from here).

(7) Keeping the railway line on your right, you’ll reach Boulamoy.

(8) Go under the railway line on the right to join another track which will take you left (twice) to Vignal.

(9) Once you’ve crossed the level crossing, turn right until you reach the tarmac road. Continue to the right for about 100 metres.

(10) Turn left before the railway line, which you’ll follow until you reach the entrance to the village of Arlanc.

(11) Cross the main road to reach the upper road, passing the gendarmerie, then, when you reach the Renault garage, turn right and follow the road for 300 metres. Ignore Rue Saturnin Allard and head for a narrow lane on your left.

(12) Take this lane, walk past the gardens in the village centre, cross an old street and turn into another narrow lane leading back to the village of Loumas, your starting point (S/E).

Worth a visit

Arlanc boasts a beautiful Romanesque church and is also the birthplace of ‘Dentelle à la Main’ (a museum near the Town Hall). During the season, you can also visit the Jardin pour la Terre (a 6-hectare ‘Planisphere’ garden featuring tree species native to the continents); you can also enjoy the leisure centre’s facilities (picnic area, playgrounds, swimming pool).

Very busy route : No

Two points worth noting. 500 metres after the start, roadworks have obscured the path, so you need to pay a bit of attention to find it. Halfway through the walk, there was a major difficulty: the path was flooded for several hundred metres, forcing us to hop from rock to rock and wade through the water.
But a very picturesque walk

a walk with beautiful scenery
It’s a real shame that most of the route is on tarmac and the rest is on wide tracks

Taken on 5 October 2015 with a group of 22 people from St Georges Lagricol (43)
A very pleasant route with a beautiful view of the valley at Le Procureur.
We carried on to the outskirts of Arlanc to visit the old St Pierre church and returned via a path overlooking the Jardin de la Terre.
Thanks to FRITEYRE.
