(S) From Peasholm Park/Entrance to Open Air Theatre, walk northeast along Peasholm Gap to the seafront and then turn right along Royal Albert Drive.
(1) Continue walking along Royal Albert Drive, if you wish to visit the castle, turn right at the sign, otherwise continue into Marine Drive at the southern edge of North Bay.
(2) Continue around the headland until you reach South Bay. Look up at the tower to see the ship-shaped weather vane at the entrance to the East Pier. Explore the piers and marina if you wish, then continue your walk along Sandside (west) where the marina becomes more industrialised with fishing boats and lobster pots. The promenade will now swing southwest around South Bay onto Foreshore Road
(3) Continue past the cliff lift up to the Grand Hotel, the beach is at its best here if you wish to walk along the beach instead of the promenade.
(4) At the roundabout keep left, walking along the promenade/beach, but look up to admire the Spa Bridge connecting the town centre with the spa and hotels on the Esplanade. There is another cliff lift here to the town.
(5) Just beyond Scarborough Spa is another cliff lift. If you have been walking along the beach, there is a ramp back to the promenade as the beach becomes more rocky here. Continue along the promenade until you reach the large semi-circular area which was once the South Bay Swimming Pool, now filled in but interesting for the Star Disk here. This lights up at night with fibre optics showing the main star constellations (E).
