(S) From the Clock Tower on the Esplanade, enter the park and make your way downwards towards the beach. There are many paths, you may choose to explore the path.
(1) When you reach the beach, turn right and follow the wide gravel path in a south-easterly direction. There are benches here and information boards so do look back and enjoy the view of Scarborough bay. The path will turn right and go uphill.
(2) As you reach the top of the hill, the main gravel track will bend to the right, however, the Cleveland Way goes straight on into a wooded area. There is a signpost at the entrance to the wooded area. The path continues to climb until it emerges onto the cliff tops. You will see a golf course on your right. At the end of the golf course, the path will turn south and then descend via steps.
(3) At the bottom of the steps, turn right onto the wide track and continue upwards. At the top of the lane, at the large open area, turn left down a narrower footpath, this is clearly signposted. This path will continue through a wooded area and then cross a wooden bridge. The path then follows the edge of the fields which will be on your right. This will eventually reach Knipe Point Drive, turn right and walk along the path behind the houses.
(4) At the junction of Knipe Point Drive and Filey Road, turn left and follow Filey Road to Osgoodby Hill junction, here the path continues to the left moving away from the road. When you see the National Trust sign for Cayton Bay, turn left and follow the path into the wooded area and down the steps. Follow this path through the woods, this will eventually emerge onto open cliff tops.
(5) You will reach a signpost and gate, go through the gate and continue along the path until you reach a paved lane. Turning left will take you down to Cayton Bay beach, the England Coast Path/Cleveland Way continues straight on across the lane (continue along this to the car park). To end the walk here turn right and walk up the lane to the roundabout from where you can catch a bus back to Scarborough (E)
