Start at the car park by Perrier Town Hall, near the church.

(S/E) With your back to the town hall, turn right onto Rue des Gravières (downhill) and turn right at the first junction onto Rue de Mezel. Walk past the school and cross the Couze Pavin. At the cross, after the sports fields, take the stony path on the right. Reach the junction of two paths
(1) Take the path on the left, the Chemin de Madrat, which goes uphill. Ignore the side paths.
(2) Turn right at Puy de Mercœur to go round this ancient volcano. Turn right at the junction with a cross-path, continuing to go round Puy de Mercœur. Reach a hairpin bend.
(3) Turn left, then keep right at the fork onto a small road.
(4) Cross the ford over the Ruisseau d'Antaillat, a few hundred metres after the fork, leaving the small road to take an uphill path on the right. Ignore the path branching off to the right, cross the road leading down to Meilhaud to rejoin the path opposite, which has shifted about fifty metres to the left.
(5) Head down towards Meilhaud along the first path branching off to the right, 400m after crossing the road.
(6) At the crossroads, turn right at the hairpin bend then head down towards Meilhaud via Rue d’Antaillat, keeping in the same direction. This leads to the castle. Continue northwards.
No signposting
(7) Leave the village. Cross the D26 at the cross. Opposite, Rue de Panthieu offers a clear view of the Chaîne des Puys. Reach a crossroads with four perpendicular roads.
(8) Take the path on the right. Walk along it, then turn right onto the forest track, which slopes gently downwards. This leads to the hamlet of Les Rocs, crosses the D26, then crosses the bridge over the Couze Pavin after an S-bend at the Moulin de Pont Estrade.
(9) Turn left about fifty metres after crossing the Couze, following this wide, stony lane. You will come to the first crossroads you passed on the way out.
(1) Continue straight ahead. Rue de Mezel on the left leads to Perrier church after crossing the Couze Pavin, then back to the starting point in front of the town hall (S/E).
