Park in the car park opposite the Centre Aéré de l’Amicale Laïque, located at 571 Chemin de la Plaigne in Issoire. Please note that access to the car park is not possible from the Route de Perrier side.
(S/E) Leave the car park on the Centre Aéré side, turning right onto Chemin de la Plaigne. At the junction with Rue Camille Claudel, continue straight on along a dirt track which becomes tarmac at the entrance to Perrier (Rue de la Couze). Continue until you reach Avenue d’Issoire (D996).
(1) Turn left onto this road.
(2) Turn left onto Rue de Siorac, then cross the small bridge (photo). Just after the bridge, turn right and head towards a four-way junction.
(3) Turn left. Make sure you keep going in the same direction, ignoring the turnings on either side.
(4) Walk the length of the hamlet of Binazat (see photo), then, as you leave it, turn left. Continue straight on along the tarmac road. As you approach Issoire, you’ll see the Château d’Hauterive on your right, perched on the hillside (see photo).
(5) At the junction of Chemin de Binazat and Rue Ernest d’Hauterive, turn left downhill. Continue straight on until you reach Boulevard de Barrière.
(6) Turn left onto it.
(7) At the traffic lights, turn left onto Impasse de Barrière. You’ll need to pass between two walls (see photo). Once you’ve left the tarmac section behind, carry on straight ahead. At the tarmacised crossroads, follow Rue Roger Varenne straight ahead; it then turns right before joining Chemin de la Plaigne.
(8) Turn left to return to the starting point (S/E).
It was a shame there was fog this morning and visibility was poor, but the route was interesting – a route with no difficulties at all
