Via the Col des Seignors

This isan easy hike with stunningly beautiful views. Overall, you will walk along long stretches of mountainside, some of which are a little tricky and require you to take your time, but which offer truly breathtaking views.

Description of the walk

Park just in front of the forest barrier (one space). Other spaces are available along the road, 100 m upstream and downstream from the forest barrier.

(S/E) From the forest barrier, take the wide path that climbs slightly, stay on the path that makes a hairpin bend, and continue to a fork. The climb offers beautiful views of the Dents de Roque Forcade and, on the right, Sainte Victoire.

(1) Take the path furthest to the left, pass the Source de Tolon, and reach the Col des Seignors.

(2) Continue straight ahead, heading north-west, join a path coming from the left, and arrive at an intersection, La Targette.

(3) Take the path that turns right, passing a very small trail that branches off to the left; pass the Pas du Lierre and continue north.

(4) Turn right, leaving a small path on the left, and arrive at elevation 506.

(5) Turn right and descend to the Route de la Saint-Baume.

(6) Go up to the right until you reach the bend on the left.

(6) Leave this road and continue straight ahead between two concrete pillars on a tarmac road that runs alongside a few houses. Continue along the wide dirt track until you reach the fork in the road you took on the way there.

(1) Turn left and, following the same route as on the way there, return to the car park (S/E).

Hello, after milestone 6, the wide dirt track mentioned in the guidebook is impassable, completely overgrown with dense, impenetrable vegetation. We had to take the road to get back to the car park where we started.

- Parking spot for one car in front of a delicate forest barrier. Coming from Auriol (going uphill), there is another parking spot 150 metres to the left that is larger (several vehicles) and flat.
- First section to the Col des Seignors on a forest road that climbs to the site of a high-voltage pylon construction. Very beautiful view indeed.
- Good path from La Targette to Pas du Lièvre, taking care not to lose it, ridge line with beautiful views on both sides.
-Descent to points 4 and 5 through scrubland with no particular views on a good path.
-5 to 6 descent without any particular difficulty to the road.
- From point 4 to point 6, you do get scratched by the vegetation.
- 6 to 7 no comment, tarmac road. BE CAREFUL, it is very busy and traffic travels fast.
- From 7 to 1, after skirting the properties (with inhabited houses), the path disappears into the vegetation. We follow animal tracks rather than a path. We also come across several beautiful wild boar wallows along the way.
Difficult climb, no path and uninteresting.

In short, I do not recommend this hike, only the first third up to the Pas du Lièvre is worth mentioning for the interesting view. The rest is just scratches from vegetation and battles with brambles.
I won't mention the encounter at the start with an Anatolian shepherd dog, well controlled by its shepherd, and the 200 sheep that greet you 500 metres after the sheepfold. The very friendly shepherd kindly reminded us how to behave in the presence of this impressive dog when it charges at you at full speed with its mouth wide open.
Don't move!

The first part of the hike was very pleasant, with spectacular views! However, the second part was on a small, poorly maintained trail (with invasive gorse and holm oaks that scratched us), which took us back down to the road, only to resume on a trail that was still uninteresting and difficult to access. The advertised elevation gain was almost 600 metres, but we only did 200 metres in 2 hours and 15 minutes instead of the advertised 3 hours... We didn't understand... Too bad...
Impossible to do without the app.
