Opposite the La Sourde viewpoint, there is the Echo

A route for the eyes but also for the ears.
No fewer than three viewpoints with superb views of the villages of Ravilloles and Leschères, and to top it all off, one of the most beautiful acoustic sites in the Haut-Jura, where you can discover the pleasure of listening intently during this walk.

PLEASE NOTE:The GR®9is closed to all traffic, including pedestrians, from 15 July to 15 December 2020 due to forestry work between "sur la côte" (9) and "sur le château" (1).

Description of the walk

To reach the start point, head towards the village of Ravilloles. Walk through the village towards Les Crozets.
Walk past the town hall and turn onto the small road on the right towards the lake. The entrance to the lake is in the bend; this is where you’ll find the car park.

(S/E) Head north-east along the left bank of Lake Ravilloles. You are on a section of theGR®9. Continue to the far end of the lake.

(1) Leave theGR®9and continue north-east along the yellow-marked path until you reach the D118.

(2) Cross the road and continue along the path signposted towards the Belvédère de la Sourde. Stay on the yellow-marked trail. Head to the Belvédère de la Sourde.

(3) Continue along the path towards Leschères. At the junction with the Route forestière de la Sourde, turn right towards Leschères, and you will come to a Y-shaped crossroads.

(4) Leave the path to Leschères on your right and follow the signs for the Belvédère de la Colonne. Pass the viewpoint and continue to the D146, following the yellow markings.

(5) Cross the D146 to take the path heading south-east towards Angelon and the Belvédère du Capet. Reach the hamlet of Angelon. Continue south along the road until the bend at the end of the hamlet, arriving at the Fontaine à Pochon.

(6) Turn right to reach an area that has been listed as one of the most beautiful soundscapes in the Haut-Jura.

(7) Return to the previous crossroads.

(6) Take the yellow-marked path on the right to reach the Belvérère du Capet.

(8) Continue through the woods to rejoin the D146E2.

(9) Follow it to the right for a few metres, then turn right onto theGR®9. Begin a long descent and join the D118. Cross it to return to the original junction.

(1) Follow the route you took on the way out in the opposite direction to return to the lake car park (S/E).

(3) Picnic table at the La Sourde viewpoint and at Ravilloles Lake.
No drinking water points along the route.
A well-shaded walk.

Worth a visit

- Museum of Craftsmanship in Ravilloles
(7) Le Curtillet: a sound site listed as one of the most beautiful sound sites in the Haut-Jura. The sound vibrations travelling through the limestone strata offer a veritable natural concert to anyone who takes the time to call out (shout: HEY HO) and soak it all in.

The Sourde viewpoint is absolutely remarkable; the start of the climb up to the road crossing is along a rocky, somewhat difficult and steep track, but it only takes 10 minutes; the rest of the climb (still steep!) is along a small path, which is more pleasant. The hike then continues mainly on rolling, comfortable forest paths. In winter, the other two viewpoints offer unobstructed, bucolic views of the village of Leschères.
After point (5), I extended the route by adding a circular loop of about 6 km to the north (Prés de Valfin and La Rixouse, Bois de la Joux, "sur la Côte" viewpoint). I returned to the map at point (9) to make a quick round trip to the Capet viewpoint (8) and then continued downhill to the car park. Worth noting after point (9): another beautiful view of the Haut-Jura mountain range at the edge of the meadows. I was delighted with my outing. Many thanks to the author for sharing.

Hike done in mid-August 2024. We were rather disappointed with the route.
Three proper climbs along the route, including two right at the start – quite a challenging start
Only one of the three viewing points offers a good view (the first one); for the other two, the view isn’t clear.
We couldn’t find the sound installation and so didn’t get the chance to listen. There was just a large, dreary clearing where the trees had been cleared.
The rest of the walk was nice but nothing special – a shame.
A shaded trail, perfect in sunny weather.

Apart from the Sourde viewpoint, the rest of the walk is disappointing; the other viewpoints are obscured by vegetation, and point 7 is impossible to find in a valley littered with felled trees.

We completed the route today in glorious weather, which meant a fantastic view from the La Sourde viewpoint – well earned after a good climb from the dam.
This is the only challenging part of the route, which took 4 hours to complete, comprising 3 hours and 20 minutes of actual walking; a distance of 13.5 km with 628 m of elevation gain.
The Capet viewpoint itself is poorly signposted along the route (vague information at the Capet viewpoint signpost).
At the fountain in Pochon, we went looking for the sound installation, but to no avail; only a rooster from the village of Leschères answered us.
We would like to highlight the usefulness of the Visorando app on a smartphone.
Thank you, and we’ll be back

Two good climbs, a walk through the woods – pleasant and not too long – a corner of the Jura well worth exploring...
