Starting from Échemiré, a partner municipality of Baugé-en-Anjou, you’ll head towards Cheviré-le-Rouge via the Menhir du Coq and through beautiful forests, before returning to your starting point – almost due south – along lovely footpaths and small country lanes.

A circular loop in the footsteps of Rouget le Braconnier
A bit of history: the story of Rouget the Poacher began in 1854. A poacher who defied the imperial gendarmes, he one day wounded one of them by shooting him. Rouget was then hunted down by the imperial forces.
Hidden in the village and the surrounding woods by locals devoted to his cause, he was betrayed by his own cousin before being brought to trial. Sentenced to life imprisonment with hard labour in French Guiana, he died there in 1858.

Between Blou and Neuillé
Perched atop its hill, at an altitude of over 100 metres, Blou bears the marks of its age and invites visitors to remember that it was one of the first inhabited settlements in Anjou. Further down the valley, the River Suzon winds its way through Neuillé, a village with equally timeless charm. All around, woods, fields and market gardens serve as a reminder that this is a rural area where life is peaceful.

Walk around the village of Coutures, passing through farmland and vineyards that change constantly with the seasons. There are numerous views of Montasabert Castle and the agricultural plain, which is dominated – particularly in May and June – by artichoke fields. The route follows almost entirely along dry, stony paths.
