Description of the walk

Park in the car park at the junction of Rue des Quais and Avenue de la Petite Chapelle.

(S/E) From the car park, head left along Rue des Quais, heading towards the far end of the car park. At the end of the street, cross Rue Gambetta and take the small one-way road, passing in front of the tennis courts. Follow this dead-end road to the end. Cross a footbridge.

(1) Continue along the path opposite. At the junction, continue to the left (Chemin du Clos Carré). After passing an area of blockhouses, you’ll emerge at the end of Rue Saint-Martin. Continue to the right, passing the beachfront houses. Keep going straight on, following theGR® 223. After a hairpin bend that crosses a small stream, you’ll reach the end of Issue aux Moignes.

(2) Follow the coastal path through the blockhouses (a short tricky section where you’ll need to climb over the stone embankment) to the hamlet of Landemer.

(3) Walk up a short stretch of road in front of the hotel-restaurant and continue straight on along Rue des Douanes (with a central gutter). Continue straight on along the small road, which is one-way except for residents. About 100 m further on, pass the “La Mailleraye” lodge. Continue to a large car park with a lovely sea view, picnic tables and toilets.

(4) At the bend just after the viewpoint, leave the road and take the coastal path which descends to the right. Follow this coastal path for several kilometres, ignoring all paths on the left. You will reach the Mur Blanc and continue along this path until you reach the stream "la Sabine".

(5) Cross the stream, then turn left immediately. A few metres further on, cross the stream again. Continue straight on until you reach the Hameau aux Ducs.

(6) At the entrance to the hamlet, at the 90° bend, leave the road on your left and continue straight on until you reach the D 402.

(7) Turn left onto the Route d’Éculleville (D 402), towards Gréville-Hague. Continue to the village and pass through a 30 km/h zone.

(8) When you reach the church, turn right towards the statue of Jean François Millet. Go round it on the left and take the first street on the left, towards the town hall. Just after the town hall, turn right, then left into Rue Morel. Continue to the wash house, cross the Ruisseau du Castel and continue for a further 200 m.

(9) Turn left, then, at the hamlet of “La Quiesce”, turn left again at the first junction. Walk through the hamlet to the junction with the D 45.

(10) Take the first road on the right towards the hamlet of Les Fèves. At the end of the hamlet, at the fork, turn left to descend the hairpin bend into the Hubiland valley.

(11) At the junction with the D 45, carefully follow the road to the left, then head down a path on the right to reach Landemer. Continue along Rue du Hubiland to rejoin the D45.

(12) Carefully follow the D45 to the left. Pass the Landemer Hotel-Restaurant again, but this time continue along the D45. Pass the Manoir de Dur Écu. After passing a beautiful house (La Roseraie), turn right after the wall towards the hamlets of Capel and Nicolle.

(13) At the junction after the car park, turn left into the small street with a central gutter.

(14) After the wash house, go down the steps on the left to come out onto the D45 again. Turn right, continue to the car park and turn left. Walk through the housing estate following the main road.

(1) At the end, take the footbridge on the right, then, after the tennis courts, turn left to reach the beach. Walk along the beach on the right until you reach Villa Chanteclerc (the white villa).

(15) Leave the beach and return via Avenue de la Plage, turning right. At the stop sign, turn right to return to the starting point (S/E).

A lovely route that I’m doing for the second time.
The first half is particularly beautiful, following the coastal paths with stunning scenery around Landemer as you head towards Omonville-la-Rogue.
Then, you turn left and take a lovely uphill path to reach the higher ground.
The rest of the route is less pleasant as we’re on the road, although we do pass through some lovely hamlets.
I turned off onto the path we started on to avoid a section of the main road.

A lovely walk; the first half along the coastal path is magnificent.
On the way back, we decided to rejoin the original route when we came across it, rather than walk along the busy main road, where cars drive very fast.
