From Les Orgeries to Clos-Neuf

This unmarked route will allow you to explore the southern part of the village of Tresbœuf.
It also follows paths through the villages of Lalleu and La Bosse-de-Bretagne. A few paths have escaped land consolidation, but despite this, half of the route is tarmac.
Panoramic views will allow you to appreciate a whole array of wind turbines as well as the hedgerow landscape.

Description of the walk

Start from the sports hall car park, near the town hall and the old state school.

(S/E) Head north towards the private school, down Rue des Peupliers towards the Neo-Romanesque church (1846–1851). Note, on the right at the junction with Rue des Colombes, a well incorporated into a house with a straight wooden lintel and a niche for a religious icon.

(1) From Place de l’Église, turn south, between the hairdresser’s and the former girls’ private school, and take Rue des Fauvettes then Rue des Chardonnerets. Continue straight south to Rue des Tilleuls, which you follow to the left.

(2) Turn immediately right, after the cross commemorating Dominique Rublon who died for France in 1915, and take Rue des Bouvreuils heading west. At the end of the street, turn left towards the south, passing under a power line.

(3) At the Croix Mettier, turn left heading east. Cross the D63 with care and follow the land consolidation track to Les Orgeries, passing under a power line once more.

(4) 250 m after this village, turn right onto a small path heading east. At the end of the path, turn right and follow the track southwards until you reach a local road where you’ll have a panoramic view of a whole cluster of wind turbines.
(Martigné-Ferchaud, Sainte-Colombe, Soulvache, Teillay, Sion-les-Mines and, with a keen eye, those at Soudan. Along the route, we can also see those at Pléchâtel and Le Petit-Fougeray).

(5) Head west. When the road bends to the left, continue straight on until you reach the old Hautais mill (visible on the Cassini map).

(6) Turn left onto the Route Départementale heading south.
At the transformer, turn right onto the VC9 towards La Bosse-de-Bretagne, heading west for 500 m until you reach the first track on the right.

(7) Take this track northwards and you will arrive at the Croix Mettier.

(3) Turn left onto the track heading west, and follow it to the next crossroads.

(8) Turn left heading west along the Chemin du Plessis until you reach the farm, where you turn right onto the village track. (These tracks may be impassable in winter. In this case, take the D47.) Turn left and, after 50 m, cross the D47 with care.

(9) Take the dirt track leading towards Croix Guénard until you reach the next track on your right.

(10) Head north towards Clos-Neuf (an old manor house and stagecoach stop).

(11) Turn right onto the village track heading east, which you follow for 1,200 m until the next village track on the left.

(12) Head north towards La Bahuchais, then turn right at the first track, then turn left and head north towards Le Plessis.

(13) At the main road (D247), turn right towards the village. Turn right at the football ground, then left, and return to the starting point (S/E).

A lovely walk, though a bit too much tarmac. The route is described in great detail and is therefore easy to follow using GPS. At point 4, after the village of ‘Les Orgeries’, the marked path was very muddy. We went round the village of ‘La Goupillère’ and rejoined the path afterwards. Otherwise, nothing else to report.
