From Les Menuires to the Roc 1 cable car

This route takes the Sentier des Girauds and then the Sentier des Teppes, before retracing its steps and ending with the Sentier des Girauds, which leads to the Roc 1 cable car arrival point. As the ski touring trail is not marked before the Christmas holidays and is impossible to find, it is still possible to take the footpath, which offers a beautiful, easily accessible hike, perfect for an introduction to ski touring.

Description of the walk

Park at the Brelin car park on the road of the same name.

(S) Head north along the Sentier des Bernadettes trail.

(1) When you see the first sheepfolds, turn right to make a circular route leading to Giraud and pass between the two chalets to reach the end of the Sentier des Bernadettes and the junction with the Sentier des Teppes.

(2) Take the path on the left heading north-northeast and continue to the intersection between the Sentier des Teppes and Sentier des Girauds.

(3) Continue left towards Sentier des Girauds and walk for about 1.2 km, or less depending on your preferences and fitness level, until you reach the Roc 2 chairlift.

(4) Retrace your steps.

(3) Continue left, heading south towards the clearly visible Roc 1 cable car arrival point, and join it (E).

Notes

Access from the Brelin car park. Access on foot is possible from the Brelin lift. Cross the Brelin building to reach the car park, where signs indicate the start of the route.

The trail is well maintained: a snow groomer passes by and there are no difficulties. Hiking boots are sufficient if there is not too much snow.

The cable car ride down is free.

The Tourist Office provides a map of the routes. The directions are insufficient, which is why I am suggesting this route. The Visorando trail makes it easy to follow the route and see how long it takes.

Worth a visit

Old houses in ruins and some inhabited ones give it a charming atmosphere, far from the town of Les Menuires!
