Exploring the woods of Woippy and Plesnois

This varied walk will allow you to discover, in particular, the Bois du Nord de Woippy, the Parc de la Gentière (a former private wildlife park that has become a forest), the limestone meadow with its unique view of Saulny, and a beautiful descent through the Bois de Plesnois.

Description of the walk

You can reach the starting point by coming via the Semécourt retail park or via the Woippy exit. In both cases, head to the hamlet of Belle Vue via the D652 linking Metz to Rombas.
When you reach the hamlet of Belle Vue, leave the D652 and turn onto Rue Sainte-Anne. There is a car park at the end of this dead-end street.

(S/E) At the end of the street, when you reach the field, take the path on the left. Then turn right onto a forest track and continue for 1 km.

(1) Then turn left to continue on the Parc de la Gentière route. Follow this path, ignoring the paths branching off to the sides, until you reach an old, partially ruined forest house.

:2: Turn right and stay on this path until you reach the wooded edge of a lake. Take the first path on the right for 200 m.

(3) Take the path on the left, going round a kennel. After a short stretch through the forest, the path continues along the edge of a field. Keep the field on your left until you reach the access road to the kennel. Turn left and continue until you reach a junction with the D50 road linking Woippy to Norroy-le-Veneur.

(4) Cross it carefully and use the pedestrian crossing to enter the Bois de la Gentière. Walk through this park (a former private estate) staying on the main path until you reach another pedestrian crossing after 1 km.

(5) After passing a farm, take the path on the right, keeping the woods on your right. After passing a mobile phone mast, stay on this path through fields and orchards until you reach a crossroads at the Calvaire de la Croix de Vaux.

(6) Cross Rue de Plesnois and continue straight ahead on a path that climbs into the Bois Communal de Plesnois. Ignore the side paths and, after a climb, you will reach a football pitch. Take the panoramic path on the left, then turn right to cross a limestone meadow with a beautiful view of Saulny and reach the D7. Ignore it, follow the forest road to the right and reach the entrance to Fort Lorraine.

(7) Take the path on the right and stay on this lovely path as it continues downhill until you reach the entrance to Plesnois. After reaching the first house, ignore the path leading off to the left and take the path straight ahead.

(8) Keep the field on your left and continue down this path until you reach Route de Saulny. Turn left onto this road and stay on the right-hand pavement. Before the three-way junction with Rue du Pigeonnier, turn right onto Chemin de Derrière Villers.

(9) Continue along this road through the orchards, then turn left until you reach Rue de Woippy.

(10) Cross carefully and join the cycle path that runs alongside the road. Take the first right, pass the Plesnois sports ground and turn right onto the path that leads into the Bois Jacquemignon. Continue along this path, which alternates between woodland and fields, until you reach Sainte-Anne (S/E).

A very pleasant hike. A beautiful forest, then you arrive at a plateau where you can enjoy a panoramic view.
You feel like you're somewhere else, even though you're on the outskirts of Metz.
I will do it again in different seasons.
The guidance is impeccable.

Hello, and thank you for sharing
.gpx track followed on the GPS
A varied and very pleasant route
Muddy sections, especially the
straight stretch at the start where the path and
the road meet! Quite normal
in winter. Worth doing again in another season
Nothing special to add

A lovely route that must be very pleasant in the height of summer, when it’s really hot, because, apart from the limestone grasslands of Saulny and the open pastures, the route runs through woodland and is therefore shaded.
