Description of the walk

(S) The route starts in Saint-Christophe-du-Jambet; there is a small square next to the church where you can park your car.
From there, head towards Fresnay-sur-Sarthe via Rue François Rabelais.
On leaving the village, turn right. When you reach Le Perrein, take the path on the left. Head due north until you reach a road, which you take on the left to enter Moitron-sur-Sarthe. Then, once on the D226, continue left along Rue des Templiers.

(1) At the crossroads, turn right. Then, at the Fork in the road, continue left. At the end of the road, turn left. You will join the D21, which you follow to the right.

(2) Take the path on the left. On the D226bis, go for 100m then continue along the path on the left until you reach the road.

At the end of the road, turn right and continue to the right. After passing the turn-off for Bout des Prés, cross through La Balotterie. At the Fork in the road, continue to the right. Once you reach Bourg Neuf, enter Montreuil-le-Chétif by turning left.
In the village, turn right and take the first street on the left. At the Fork in the road, marked by a wayside cross, continue to the right.

(4) Continue along the path opposite to enter the forest. Carry on left for 100m along a wide forest track, following it as it turns right, and continue along this track.

(5) Leave the wide track and turn right onto a path that leads you to the “Saut du Serf” viewpoint and then to the “Roche Brune” viewpoint.

(6) After crossing the Ruisseau de Roullée, turn right. You are now on the Grande Ligne, which you leave to the right onto a path that descends. Keep to the left and continue in the same direction, ignoring the paths to the right and left.

(7) At the crossroads, head due east and keep going straight on.

I’m giving my opinion on this route, which I’ve only completed in part.
In fact, from point 7, I cut through the forest to the south to join the GR36 so I could return to the starting point.
This route is very pleasant despite quite a bit of road at the start....
The sections at Saut du Cerf AND Rochebrune add a bit of elevation to the route and there’s a special atmosphere there... especially as the weather was rainy and misty when I was there.
