From Mouroux to Faremoutiers via the Sainte-Aubierge Chapel

Starting point and access: Mouroux station.
- Transilien - Line P, on the section between Paris-Est and Coulommiers.
Take the only exit from the only platform.

Red and white markings

(S) Cross the station car park, turn left, pass an information sign and follow the Chemin Latéral (this is the name of the gravel track) to the left. After No. 300, ignore a path on the right and turn left onto a shaded path. Pass a forest gate to reach a crossroads.

Yellow markings (rare due to lack of support)

(1) Then turn left and take the bridge over the railway line. At the crossroads that immediately follows, go straight ahead. Climb gently between a field on your left and a hedge on your right (note the keep of Coulommiers in the distance on your left). You will come out onto a small road and follow it to the right, still climbing. At the junction with two paths, go straight ahead and pass the foot of the Chapelle du Vieux Saint-Augustin (ignore the arrow indicating a right turn; two^{PR® trails} separate here).

(2) Just after the chapel, turn left onto a grassy path between the fields. Walk south-east then south-south-east and ignore a path that is not shown on the map. At the next crossroads (elevation 135), go straight ahead, heading south. About 500 m further on, take the^first path on the right. Walk along a wood on your left and continue between the fields. At the end, cross a small road and follow the grassy path that branches off to the left. At the crossroads, continue straight ahead in the shade.

(3) At the end of the road, cross a street and follow Rue du Champ Guérin opposite. At the corner of No. 11, turn left onto a grassy path (not shown on IGN maps). After entering a wood, the path gives way to a trail. At the three-way junction, turn left and cross a stream. Leave the wood and find a grassy path between the garden fences. Come out onto a street and follow it to the right.

(4) Take the^first left, Rue du Lavoir. Note the wash house on the right, of which only an outer wall remains (which is of little interest). Continue straight ahead and cross Rue des Préaux on the left, then Chemin du Glacis on the right. At the T-junction, turn right.

No signposts

Take the^first left, Chemin des Houches (gravel track). At the end, follow the tarmac road to the left for a few dozen metres.

(5) At the corner of No. 7, turn right onto a grassy path. Continue along a gravel path and pass under a medium-voltage power line. Come out onto a small road and follow it downhill to the right. Cross a river and go back up. After about 50 metres, turn right with the road (ignore the arrow pointing left into a wood; two^PR® trails separate here). Enter the hamlet of Esse and cross it downhill.

(6) Cross Rue des Coteaux and follow the shaded path opposite. Descend, cross a river and continue between two fenced meadows. Ignore a path on the left and cross a second river. Come out onto a small road and follow it to the left.

Cross Rue de Brie on the right and continue straight ahead.

(7) Cross Chemin de Penchard on the right and continue straight ahead. After about 200 m, you will reach the site of the Chapelle Sainte-Aubierge with its spring and wash house.

(8) Retrace your steps to the intersection with Chemin Penchard.

No signposts

(7) Turn left onto this gravel path and go uphill. When it turns left into a cul-de-sac towards a private property, continue straight ahead on a grassy path. Immediately turn right at the corner of a fence and walk in the shade between horse pastures.

Come out onto a street and follow it uphill to the left. At the T-junction, turn right onto Chemin du Bois Ferment and continue for about 50 metres.

(9) At the crossroads, go straight ahead (leaving the^GR® trail on your left) and cross a wood. Join a wider path and follow it to the right and downhill. Come out onto a street and turn left for about 30 metres.

(10) At the intersection, continue straight ahead on Rue de la Vallée towards Les Bordes. Stay on this small road and ignore all turnings on the left.

(11) Shortly after No. 20, at a 50 km/h speed limit sign seen from behind, turn right onto a path. Go downhill, ignore a turn-off on the right (not shown on the map) and turn left into a wood. Continue along the edge of the wood on the right and pass under a medium-voltage power line. You will come out onto a small road; follow it to the right and pass a small car park on the right.

(12) Just before a wash house, turn left onto a path along the Aubetin river. The path quickly moves away from the river and runs alongside a meadow on the right. Enter the woods. Ignore a turn-off on the left and follow the path alongside a meadow on the left. Stay on the main path and ignore all turn-offs on either side. Follow a long meadow on the right. At the end of the meadow, you will come to the Aubetin on your right. Follow the path to Rue de la Cascade (the waterfall is on your right).

(13) Continue straight ahead on Rue du Moulin Jacquot towards La Lavanderie. Take the^first left, Chemin de la Petite Rue, immediately ignore a turn-off on the right and climb slightly. Just before a bus stop, turn right and continue straight ahead on Chemin des Malandos. Cross a wood and, at the T-junction, turn left and climb slightly.

(14) When you leave the woods, continue straight ahead on a grassy path between the fields. At the end, take the^second path on the left, pass a metal cross on your left and head towards the houses. Continue along a paved road and ignore a dead end on the right. At the crossroads, go straight ahead (no entry). At the end of the street, turn right and at the stop sign, follow Avenue Victor Massoul to the right. At the foot of the town hall and opposite the church, cross the avenue at the pedestrian crossing.

(15) Follow Rue Da Costa to the left. At the stop sign, go straight ahead onto Rue Félicien Desfournaux. Ignore a small street on the left and continue along Rue Foch. When the street turns right, turn left, cross a public park and pass by the war memorial. On the other side, follow a street on the right. At the stop sign, turn left and cross a residential area.

(16) At the next intersection, turn right and follow the cemetery on your left. Cross a street on your right and continue on a gravel track. At the next intersection, turn right, follow the signs for VTT n°8 and go downhill. At the crossroads at the entrance to Faremoutiers, turn left and go downhill. Just before the level crossing, you will find Faremoutiers-Pommeuse station on your left (E).

To return home:
- Transilien - Line P, towards Paris-Est or Coulommiers (single track).

For motorists:
Both stations are on the same section of the same line: park at one of the stations and take the train to the other station.

Hiking boots are recommended.

No drinking water available along the route.

(8) The Chapelle Sainte-Aubierge is a good place to stop for a break or a picnic.

A 1:25,000 map is useful, at least the one accompanying this description.
