From the Cabane des Champis to Lac de Blanchemer

Starting from Les Champis, the route passes through the Marécage Rouge Feigne, the Col de Thiaville (alt. 1,112 m), the Hohneck (alt. 1,363 m) and the Col du Wormspel (alt. 1,277 m) before descending towards Lac de Blanchemer.

Description of the walk

(S) With your back to the Chalet des Champis, turn left onto theGR®®533, heading towards the Col des Faignes/Feignes (markings: Yellow Saltire).

(1) At Marécage Rouge Feigne, leave theGR®®533and turn right, skirting the marsh and following the same markings (Yellow Saltire) towards the east.

(2) At the junction, near the Pont du Chitelet, leave the forest and change direction to climb the Hohneck via the Col de Thiaville. (markings: Blue Ring).
The path is opposite, to the left of the roundabout, in the Retournemer forest.

(3) Please note: at the Col de Thiaville, you are in the Chaume Charlemagne - Faignes Forie Integral Biological Reserve (stay on the paths) (markings: Blue Ring). Specific regulations to be consulted: Documentation

On leaving the forest, continue along the road and go behind the Refuge du Sotré to reach the Hohneck. (markings present)

(4) On the way, at the D430, you will see a path opposite; take it and continue climbing. (South-East). (markings: Blue Ring).

(5) At Hohneck (where there is a large car park and a hotel-restaurant), head towards the Pied du Hohneck access point (south-west) via a descending path. (markings: Red Rectangle-White Rectangle-Red Rectangle).

(6) At the Col de Wormspel, there are numerous markings and paths; head towards the Rainkopf by following the Crêtes path

(7) Please note: in this area you are close to the sensitive zone of Kastelberg (stay on the paths)

(8) After the hamlet of Ferschmuss, at the small pass of Rainkopf, change direction and turn right to cross the D430 (markings: Blue Triangle) to reach Lac Blanchemer.
You will begin a steep descent; at the end of the path, turn left onto the Chemin du Grand Bougre.

(9) On the path, at the next junction, turn right onto another path (north). At the bottom, walk round the lake on the left to the car park (E).

At the Cabane des Champis, there is a tap.

At Lac de Blanchemer, the lake water can be used, but for cleaner water, you will need to walk to the Ferschumuss spring (marked on the IGN map).
