Tour around Lac de Lispach via Abri des Champis

A circuit through the forest to reach a fine viewpoint above the Abri des Champis overlooking the Vologne valley (Moselotte valley) and the Bresse and Hohneck massifs. It's a very pleasant way to start off, along Lac de Lispach, to admire this ancient glacial valley. The trails are perfectly signposted for walking, mountain biking and snowshoeing in winter. In summer, the ridge is a flower-filled meadow.

Description of the walk

Parking is available at the Route de Lispach car park to the south of the Lac dam.

(S/E) From the car park, cross the road and, a little to the right, join the Chemin de Mariron opposite the Lac de Lispach. Turn left, passing behind the ESF building at Lispach and under the ski lift, to reach a junction of signposted paths.

(1) Take the hairpin bend to the right and join the Anneau Rouge path (and the Rectangle Vert of the GR®533). As you enter the woods, climb a steep track. After a sharp bend to the left (1039), reach a crossroads (1131).

(2) Leave the Chemin de Mariron and turn right onto the Chemin de la Bourrique, which leads to the Abri des Champis. This shelter, with its spring, is a pleasant place to stop for a picnic.

(3) Leave the Abri des Champis, staying on the open meadow path at the bottom of the ridge, before rejoining the ridge to admire the Vologne valley and Bresse-Hohneck to the east. Head back south-south-east, entering the woods. Follow the path marked Triangle Jaune for a long way down to the Abri du Small Pass de l'Étang, located in a clearing at a crossroads.

(4) After a break at the Abri du Small Pass, take the hairpin path on the right, via the track on the left behind the shelter. A sign marks the Chemin de la Piquançoire (Green Rectangle markings on the GR®533). After a wide right-hand bend, it is joined by the Chemin des Champis (signposted Yellow Diamond) coming from the left.

(5) Continue straight ahead. At the next crossroads, leave the GR®533 and the yellow diamond markings. Turn left onto the Chemin de la Tenine, signposted Rectangle Vert Barré Blanc. After a 90° turn to the right, it heads north. Arrive at a crossroads.

(6) Keep your bearings and follow the signs. A few hundred metres further on, the path passes the Goutte de la Tenine.

(7) Continue along the path, which gradually descends until it reaches a bend on the left leading to the route de Lispach.

(8) At the bend, leave the Chemin de la Tétine and continue straight ahead on the Sentier Pédagogique, which crosses the Goutte de la Rouge Feigne, then runs alongside the road to reach the car park on the Route du Lispach (S/E).
