(S) Start from the car park south-west of Lake Lispach on the left-hand side of the D34C coming from La Bresse.
Follow the lake to the left, first crossing a wall used as a dam, then continuing along a very well-marked path with occasional wooden walkways to keep your feet dry. At the end of the lake, leave the route to the right and climb up a path towards the wide Ehlinger path or the small pass of the Collet de la Mine.
(1) At the crossroads, continue straight ahead on a path marked with a Blue Triangle, ignoring a path leading slightly downhill to the right. Follow the path on level ground or slightly downhill through the forest. You will reach a tarmac section opposite a building; continue along the road downhill to the right.
(2) At a junction, ignore the road going uphill to the left and continue to the right to join the lakeside road. Cross the road carefully and continue straight ahead.
(3) Turn right onto a dirt track following the lakeside. You can visit the Saint-Florent chapel on the grassy hillock. Continue along the lakeside, veering slightly left to find the campsite road which branches off to the left, then the main D67 road, which you cross.
(4) Climb the embankment opposite to enter the forest. The route is marked here with a Blue Disc. Cross a road and head right into the forest. When you reach a forest track, follow it to the right until you reach the Boulard shelter.
(5) Continue south-east until you reach the junction with the main D417 road. Cross over to the opposite side and take a path on the right leading downhill, marked with a Blue Triangle. Continue downhill to the D67 road.
(6) Follow the road to the left until the next junction, where you turn right. 50 metres further on, take a path marked with a Red Cross on the right-hand edge of the campsite. You arrive at Lake Retournemer on your left.
(7) Follow the western shore of the lake. At a bend in the path to the left, follow an uphill path marked with a Blue Disc to the right, which leads to the Col des Faignes at a crossroads.
(8) Turn right onto the D34c road and follow it for 400 metres. At an elevation of 989 metres, paths join from the right. Pass an information panel on the right and follow a path to the left, uphill, marked with a Green Ring and labelled “Par sentier Dielaine Difficile” on a sign. This path, which is uphill at the start, then becomes gently sloping or flat but a little “technical”.
(9) Do not take the steeply ascending path running perpendicular to the left. Continue straight ahead through fairly wild terrain in sparse woodland, occasionally with large boulders and two sections equipped with safety cables. Descend to the left of the ski jump and exit the forest. You’ll join a path coming from the left, which you follow straight ahead to reach the road, then turn right to return to the starting point (E).
