From Izon-la-Bruisse to Les Damias

The third stage of the Tour de la Méouge, passing through the three pretty villages of Eygalayes, Lachau and Éourres. More beautiful panoramic views of the Southern Alps, as well as a charming pastoral and rural atmosphere.

This walk is part of a multi-day hike: Tour of the Méouge in the Baronnies Provençales

Description of the walk

(S) From Izon Nature, start by following the tarmac road which descends slightly, passing in front of the fountain and then over the bridge.

(1) A few metres after the first hairpin bend on the right, take a faint track on the left. When the track veers sharply to the left, leave it and continue straight on across a field of lavender. Cross the field heading north-east to rejoin the path that descends to the river. Cross the river and head south-east, then due south along a more clearly marked path that winds its way through the broom.

(2) A few metres before the first house in the village of Eygalayes, head down to the right across a meadow to rejoin a small road. Follow it down towards the church, which you go round to the right. Then turn left to come out at some fountains and the old wash house.

(3) At the wash house, head towards the PR® Col de Séouze – Lachau.

(4) At the pass, follow the signs for Lachau, keeping an eye out for the orange markings.

(5) About a hundred metres after a hairpin bend on the left, take the track that descends at a right angle to the right.

(6) At the foot of Ozeron, follow the departmental road to the right for about a hundred metres, then turn left towards Lachau. From here, follow the yellow and red markings of the GRP®.

(7) In the centre of Lachau, follow the GRP® towards Éourres. The path tends to fade in places.

(8) In the centre of the village of Éourres, follow the GRP® signposted ‘Les Damias’. After the visitors’ car park, continue for a few dozen metres to reach the hamlet of Les Damias (E).

Notes

Accommodation in Izon-la-Bruisse: Izon Nature, guest rooms and table d’hôtes, unique accommodation (treehouse, bubble tent, caravan).
Accommodation in Les Damias: The hamlet of Les Damias, campsite, lodge, guest rooms.

Hike in the Baronnies Provençales Regional Nature Park.
This walk is best undertaken in April–May–June and September–October. In summer, it can get very hot in the Baronnies Provençales, and in winter, some paths may be impassable or snow-covered.

Set off with plenty of water as most springs are not monitored and some may have a very low flow at all times of year.

For three-quarters of an hour, from (S) Izon-la-Bruisse to (3) the Eygalayes washhouse, there are no signposts. Follow the route description carefully.

Worth a visit

To avoid the unmarked section between Izon-la-Bruisse and Eygalayes, you can take the GRP®. However, this route is less interesting (it follows the road for much of the way) and adds at least a good half-hour to the stage.

Always be cautious and plan ahead when you're outdoors. Visorando and the author of this route cannot be held responsible for any accidents occurring on this route.

We followed this route after a good night’s sleep at Izon Nature. This route isn’t signposted at the start, but the path is very clear – it’s impossible to get lost – and it’s much more pleasant than the GRP route, which runs alongside the road. It took us just under 6 hours of actual walking to reach the Damias campsite.
Thanks, Maxime, for this route!
