Description of the walk

Park behind the little Saint-Pierre de Somecure Chapel, where there are four or five parking spaces.

(S/E) Head due south towards the small forest track.

(1) Turn left, then cross the Ouvèze and continue along the forest path, which climbs quite steeply towards the Bergerie de la Trappe.

(2) At the crossroads by the sheepfold, turn left, heading due south towards the Col de la Trappe.

(3) At the pass (altitude 1099m), you can rest for a while at the edge of the lavender field as the climb has been steep. Continue due east to the left and pass the 1396m altitude before the Col d'Izon.

(4) At the pass, turn left and cross the small meadow for 200 m until you reach a fork: a lovely spot for a snack.

(5) Head up the small stony path on the right, which will take you to the ridge of the Montagne de Chamouse. The path is marked in yellow. Enjoy the magnificent views as far as Le Dévoluy. Pass the 1532m altitude, the highest point of the hike.
''If you encounter a Patou coming up from the bottom of the valley, don’t panic; it’s harmless if you ignore it. Just carry on along the path at a leisurely pace.''
Leave a path on your right and head towards a fork.

(6) Don’t forget to turn left into a meadow and head down the valley to join a small path, sometimes marked in yellow.

(7) Keep to the right on this narrow path, which descends gently through the meadow.

(8) Join theGR® and follow it down to the left until you reach the forest track.

(9) Turn right onto this road and follow it down. Pass two hairpin bends and look for a barely visible path starting on the left at an altitude of 1082 metres.

(10) Be careful: take the narrow path on your left; it is not very visible, so look carefully so as not to miss it. Continue to the next junction.

(11) Take the path on the left next to the sheep pen.

(12) Go through the gate of the sheep pen – don’t forget to close the gate behind you – and join the village road.

(13) Turn left onto it, head towards the village and return to the car park (S/E).

A magnificent hike, with superb views of Mont Ventoux and the Alps, and 360° views for much of the route – and what a display of flora: flowers galore.
The most beautiful hike of our week in the Baronnies!

Hello
It is always a pleasure to follow in your footsteps.
Regarding the end of the route, which we went to check out, we noticed that the route ended in a private park where we were likely to encounter animals.
Do you have any contact details for the owners so that we can take a group through there legally and safely?
Thank you for your feedback.

The ridges are magnificent – wow!
Be careful at the end of the route – we’re on private land

Good evening,

A big thank you for this superb route.

We did the hike yesterday in glorious sunshine and with hardly a breath of wind. What a treat! This route is magnificent, and although the climb is a bit of a slog, the views from the ridges are breathtaking.

Starting from Somecure allows you to enjoy the changing views all the way up the ridges from the Col de la Trappe.

We only came across one couple walking the ridges and had a chat with some very friendly locals from the hamlet.

An interesting and very beautiful hike.
