From Flic-en-Flac to Rivière du Rempart

This walk follows the coastline from Flic-en-Flac to the Rivière du Rempart. Almost the entire walk takes you along white sandy beaches and beside a vast lagoon! It’s also an area that attracts many tourists, as evidenced by the numerous hotels in the area. There will be little shade, but there are lovely views of the surrounding peaks, and walking along such a busy stretch of coastline is more pleasant than you might think.

Description of the walk

How to get there: Head towards Flic-en-Flac to reach its beach and filaos forest.

(S/E) Head for the beach on the other side of the filaos forest. Then follow the beach to the left. Next, cross the beach in front of a hotel.

(1) You’ll soon reach the La Pirogue Hotel.

(2) Cross a stream and reach the Coton Baie hotel. As the walk progresses, a number of peaks come into view: first the Morne Brabant, then the Montagnes Noires and finally the Tourelle du Tamarin.

(3) Then walk past the Hilton Hotel.

(4) You’ll then reach the Sofitel Hotel and cross another stream.

(5) Walk alongside the Maradiva Hotel.

(6) You’ll then reach another hotel before taking the path that leads into the forest at the end of the beach. You’ll leave the beaches behind for a short while. Some sections may be muddy in wet weather, so it’s best to wear suitable footwear. The path crosses a ravine.

(7) You’ll then reach the Tamarain Hotel and its beach.

(8) At the end of the beach, you’ll reach the mouth of the Rivière du Rempart, where you’ll have a lovely view of the Tourelle du Tamarin, the Montagne du Rempart and the Trois Mamelles. Then return to the starting point via the same route (S/E).

A short, leisurely walk along the seafront with beautiful scenery. Although passing in front of the hotels might suggest this could be a drawback, we found that the landscape hadn’t been spoiled. Of course, there are lots of people sunbathing along the shore and you have to steer clear of them, which makes walking on the sand a bit trickier.
For us, the reward was reaching the mouth of the Rivière du Rempart. The beach was practically deserted. We went for a swim. A truly blissful moment!
If you don’t want to do the whole walk, you can start at point 2. There’s a public beach there with a large car park. It’s actually quite difficult to access the coastline between points 1 and 2, as it’s all blocked off by the hotels.

Hello Aladin83,

There are plenty of hiking opportunities in Mauritius. If you’d like to follow a fellow hiker, he posted six hikes in Mauritius last week on: https://randopitons.re/ He plans to post another 14 in the coming days.

Enjoy your hikes and have a lovely trip to Mauritius!

Good evening, everyone
This is certainly a topic that interests me
As newcomers to the world of hiking and with a trip to Mauritius coming up soon, I was just wondering if there are any opportunities to go hiking there
I reckon my wife and I could manage this suggested route on our own, but we’ll be there for quite a long time
So if anyone has any tips on finding routes with groups whilst we’re there, I’d love to hear them
Thanks in advance
Christian
