From Donnemarie-Dontilly to Montereau-Fault-Yonne in Bassée-Montois

Twenty-fourth stage of the Grand Tour of Île-de-France via the GR®11, starting from Donnemarie-Dontilly after spending the night there at the end ofthe previous stage. This stage connects the Montois region to the Seine Valley and Montereau-Fault-Yonne, the confluence of the Seine and Yonne rivers. It thus transitions from an agricultural landscape to a marshland landscape in the valley, ending in a more urban environment.

This walk is part of a multi-day hike: Grand tour of Île-de-France in 34 stages on the GR®11

Description of the walk

Departure: La Source de Kalibed and breakfast in Bescherelles (Donnemarie-Dontilly).

No markings

(S) Leaving the bed and breakfast, take the street on the right going uphill. Turn left after 400 m, cross a stream and take the path on the right after 50 m. Continue west for 600 m until you find a path coming from the left.

Yellow markings (PR®)

(1) Turn left onto this path, then right onto the next one, marked PR® (joining the route from the end of the previous stage). Continue south, follow a right-hand bend then a left-hand bend, walk alongside then cross a wood. Cross a road and arrive at Chalautre-la-Reposte, Rue Berlioz.

(2) Take the street on the right, then the one on the left after the church. Follow the road down to the end of the hamlet and continue straight ahead, climbing 200 metres. Turn left onto the road in front of a wood and rejoin the GR® at the next intersection.

Red and white markings (GR®11)

(3) Follow the GR® trail to the right and enter Gurcy-le-Châtel. Join Rue Ampère and follow it to the left. Continue to the edge of the village, where you will find a wide grassy path overlooking the Voulzie Aqueduct, which runs underground here.

(4) Follow this straight aqueduct track to the right (a few buildings and information panels reveal its presence). Continue across the fields to the first houses of Montigny, at La Marotte.

(5) Staying on the aqueduct path, cross two roads continuing straight ahead, cut across a path and then another road and join Chemin du Cocheret when the path turns left.

(6) Go down Rue du Cocheret, then take the path on the right after about 100 metres, still following the aqueduct. Pass Rue de la Tuilerie and continue to Rue Montmart, in front of a wash house.

No markings

(7) Leave the aqueduct trail (and the GR® for a moment) to go down Rue Montmart on the left. Follow it to the church.

(8) Take Voie de la Liberté (D403) on the right, then shortly afterwards, at a left-hand bend in the D403, take Rue du Moulin d'Ars, which goes straight ahead. Follow the street, which eventually turns left. Cross a stream and arrive at the end of another street just after. Join the GR® coming from the aqueduct passing right next to it.

Red and white markings (GR®11)

(9) Continue to the end of the street, then take the path that extends through a small wood until you reach the D403.

(10) Follow the D403 on the right-hand side for 150 m as you leave the town. Take the first path on the left and follow it between fields and woods. You will reach the Grande Vente farm, visible on the horizon as you leave the woods, more than 2 km to the south.

(11) Continue in the same direction after the farm. Ignore the road that branches off to the right and continue straight ahead. Pass the Gilly farm, then rejoin a road that climbs slightly. Follow it to the entrance to Courcelles-en-Bassée, without descending into the valley.

(12) Turn onto the path that branches off to the right, staying on the plateau, crossing and then skirting the woods on the hillside. At the T-junction at the end of the woods, turn right towards the Bailly farm. Continue straight ahead, descending into the valley behind, before the village of Salins.

(13) At the next crossroads under a power line, turn left onto the path that climbs up through the fields and then into a line of woods. Continue across the plateau and join the woods opposite, at the entrance to Château Montapot.

(14) Please note that the GR® routes may differ here depending on the source. To avoid a descent along the fence of the château grounds (private) and a climb up a fairly busy road, we suggest taking the path on the right (marked GR® on the ground, but may be PR® on maps) which stays on the plateau. Cross the fields and reach Tréchy. When you reach a perpendicular road, turn left until you reach the water tower (otherwise, descend into the woods and take the road that climbs up to the right towards Tréchy, until you reach the water tower).

(15) At the water tower, take the path heading due west, skirting a copse on your right. Cross a field and reach the edge of the woods on the hillside on your left. At the three-way junction, take the path that descends to the left into the woods and joins a road.

(16) Turn left again at the three-way junction, onto the path that descends, and arrive at the church. Go around it on your right and join Rue de Provins below.

(17) Turn left immediately at the town hall and head towards the Seine. Take the path on the right at the end of the road and follow the valley. After 400 metres, you will see the riverbank on your left and sports fields on your right.

(18) Continue along the river until you reach the A5 motorway viaduct. Then turn right and follow it for 200 metres until you reach a roundabout.

(19) Turn left to pass under the motorway and the high-speed rail line that runs parallel to it. Take the first path on the right that runs alongside the high-speed rail line for 300 metres, before turning left.

(20) Take the first left to cross the hamlet of Saint-Jean. When you reach Chemin de Saint-Jean, in front of the cemetery, turn right. After 200 metres, find and take the stairs on the left that lead up to a roundabout just above.

(21) Cross the roundabout and take Rue du Prieuré opposite, which runs parallel to the main road. Head towards Prieuré Saint-Martin.

(22) Go around the building on your right and follow the path underneath, going downhill. You will reach Rue de Provins, which runs alongside the Seine.

(23) Cross the street to reach the banks of the Seine below. Follow them downstream to the bridge at the confluence with the Yonne. Then go back up to the road to reach and cross the bridge. Immediately after, go down to the right to reach the park at the point where the two rivers meet.

(24) Continue along the banks on the Yonne side (do not cross the bridge over the Yonne). Walk upstream on the right bank for about 1 km, passing under a road bridge. You will reach a bridge used by a small railway line.

(25) Go up to cross the Yonne on the footbridge next to the railway bridge. Once on the other side, turn right until you reach the roundabout, then turn left onto Rue Léo Lagrange. Continue along this straight road for 1 km until you reach the station (E).

Return: Montereaustation , Transilien line R.
