From Longueville to Donnemarie-Dontilly through the Montois

Twenty-third stage of the Grand Tour of Île-de-France via the GR®11, and the first of a series of two stages, including this one, needed to connect the Longueville and Montereau stations, through the Montois and the Seine Valley.
For this first stage of the diptych, we suggest spending the night in a bed and breakfast in Donnemarie-Dontilly, roughly halfway between the two stations, after a beautiful crossing of the Montois, in a landscape that is a little more varied and hilly than the Brie just to the north.

This walk is part of a multi-day hike: Grand tour of Île-de-France in 34 stages on the GR®11

Description of the walk

Access: Longuevillestation , on the Provins branch of the Transilien P line (Paris-Est network).

GR® trail markings (red and white)

(S) On leaving the station, take Rue de Verdun on the right to follow the railway tracks. Continue along Rue Henri Fouilleret until you pass under a bridge beneath the tracks.

(1) Continue straight ahead (without going under the bridge) until you reach the foot of the viaduct. Walk along it on your right-hand side for its entire length, crossing the Voulzie and the D403. Continue straight ahead on Rue du Réservoir.

(2) Take the path that continues along the street, climbing up the embankment. Then follow the edge of the woods to the left, then turn right, leaving a reservoir and an antenna on your left. Continue climbing through the woods until you reach the plateau, where the path veers to the left. Continue westwards along the edge of the plateau, leave the woods and join a road just before Savins.

(3) Turn left when you reach the first houses. Cross the residential area, take the first turn right then left to find a road that descends towards the Val district. Take Rue aux Prêtres, the second road on the right, until you reach the town hall square.

(4) Turn left to cross the square in front of the church and exit onto Rue du Château d'Eau, between the church and the town hall. Then take Rue de la Fontaine on the left, passing in front of the Minost fountain. About 50 metres after the fountain, you will come to a path that branches off to the right at a right angle.

(5) Follow this path to a road and continue in the same direction. Pass the Savins reservoirs (on the Voulzie Aqueduct), cross a road, take the path opposite and reach the edge of a wood.

(6) Turn left onto the path 50 metres after entering the woods. Follow it downhill as it veers slightly to the right. Continue through the valley until you reach a T-junction.

(7) Turn right at an acute angle and go up the valley on this path. Reach the woods, cross a road and continue straight ahead to the west-southwest. Leave the woods by going slightly downhill and join a straight farm track. Pass under a power line, then cross the Aqueduc de la Voulzie track and reach a crossroads shortly before the entrance to Thénisy (whose roofs are visible ahead on the right).

(8) Turn right onto the path that passes in front of the cemetery. Continue along Rue du Calvaire until you reach a crossroads in front of a wash house. Take Rue Grande on the right for about 100 metres.

(9) Turn left onto Ruelle de l'Église, the second street on the left. You will reach the church just ahead. Take Rue de l'Église on the right and follow its bend to the left with Rue de Bourgogne.

(10) Turn right onto Sentier des Fosses at a right-left turn in the street. Reach Rue de l'Abreuvoir on the other side and turn left. Then take the second path on the right when you return to Rue de Bourgogne on the left. Cross the agricultural area in a straight line, climbing slightly, and reach the edge of the woods opposite.

(11) Turn left to descend along the woods. Cross a small road and enter the woods opposite. Cross a stream and follow the path as it curves to the right. After a short climb, you will reach a wider path, then a wash house at the entrance to Villé.

(12) Continue straight ahead, keeping to the left, on Rue de la Fontaine du Villé. Keep left at the next crossroads and you will reach a perpendicular road. Follow it to the right for 60 metres, then take Chemin du Four on the left. Follow it straight ahead until you reach a road at the entrance to Donnemarie-Dontilly (in front of a property housing an old lime kiln).

(13) Follow the road to the left, going downhill. Pass several residential entrances and then a perpendicular street, and take Rue Salgues on the right, towards the church.

(14) Turn left at the church cloister. Go around the church on your right, pass under the porches and reach the church square in front of the town hall. Continue along Rue de la Porte de Melun, on your left. Continue until you reach a wash house and turn left until you reach the Ruisseau de l'Auxence stream.

(15) Cross the stream and walk along it on your right under the shaded alley for 200 metres. Then turn left onto Rue du Pré Padou, then left again at the next street to reach Place de la Butte Saint-Pierre in front of Dontilly Church.

(16) Take the street on the right, passing the church and then the adjoining school. Continue along a path leading to Rue de la Sablière. Turn left into the street, then right at the next street, and continue until you reach Rue de la Libération (D76).

(17) Continue straight ahead at the three-way junction, Rue du Cassiot. Continue along the path that extends from it. You will come to a wooded area; cross the D213 carefully. Continue through the woods on the hillside of the valley until you reach a road at the entrance to Gurcy-le-Châtel.

PR® (Yellow) markings

(18) Leave the GR® here and turn right to reach Bescherelles (PR® markings). Follow the road and continue right at the next crossroads until you reach the entrance to Chalautre-la-Reposte.

(19) Just before a stream, take the path on the left, then the path on the right that passes in front of the wash house. Continue along the path between the properties and join the road. Continue along the road, which curves to the right and climbs, passing in front of the church.

(20) Turn right after the church, then take the path on the left after 150 m. Follow it straight ahead, heading north, on a slight incline between woods and fields. Cross a road and continue straight ahead. Pass a first perpendicular path with a slight right-left turn, follow the bend to the right at the edge of the woods and turn left after 100 m. Reach a T-junction after a small stream.

(21) Turn right down the small valley.

(22) Take the second path on the left to continue eastwards. Keep right at the next two intersections and you will reach a T-junction as you approach some buildings. Then turn left twice, cross the stream and you will reach the road at the entrance to Bescherelles.

(23) Walk up the road for about 400 metres to reach the guesthouse (E).

Arrival: La Source de Kali*guesthouse in Bescherelles, a hamlet of Donnemarie-Dontilly.

Notes

(S) Longueville station, on the Provins branch of the Transilien P line (Paris-Est network). One train per hour in each direction. See theÎle-de-France Mobilités website for timetables.

(E) Overnight stay in Donnemarie-Dontilly or the surrounding area. La Source de Kali* guesthouse in Bescherelles, a hamlet in Donnemarie-Dontilly, is a good option. To reach Bescherelles, we suggest continuing on the GR® to Gurcy-le-Châtel, then heading to Bescherelles from there. This is to reduce the difference in length between the two stages, as the next day's stage is slightly longer. However, it is also possible, and shorter, to reach Bescherelles directly from the centre of Donnemarie by leaving the GR® at (14) and continuing straight on up the Auxence valley, which branches off to the right towards the north-west, until you reach Bescherelles.

There are no restaurants in the immediate vicinity of the guesthouse. However, you can cook your own meals if necessary, and there are restaurants in the centre of Donnemarie-Dontilly, just over 2 km away.

Hike completed on 11 July 2025 with the aim of covering the entire GR® 11.
