Start in Cassis, in front of the gendarmerie: arrival of the bus from Marseille.
(S/E) At the roundabout, take Chemin du Coulet opposite, then, at the end, turn left uphill (Avenue du Revestel) and reach the junction with Route des Crêtes at the end of this avenue.
(1) Follow this road to the right and leave the built-up area of Cassis (signposted). Pass the Pas de la Colle, then negotiate two hairpin bends.
(2) After thesecond bend, take the path climbing to the right up the hillside (yellow markings).
(3) Take a quick look at the Grotte des Espagnols as you pass by (a gate prevents entry; it is a bat reserve). Then head to the first car park, which provides access to Cap Canaille.
(4) Take the path that leads to a second car park, then follows the Falaises Soubeyranes, overlooking the sea with magnificent 360° views.
(5) Path towards the Grotte des Émigrés. Reach the viewpoint located at a hairpin bend on the Route des Crêtes.
(6) Enjoy the view and continue on your way. Reach the highest point of the hike (altitude 394m) and walk about 50 metres to reach a junction.
(7) Leave the yellow-marked path by turning left to join the Route des Crêtes, which you follow until the junction leading to the Sémaphore du Bec de l'Aigle.
(8) Cross the road at this junction to take the wide path opposite. After about 200 m, rejoin the yellow-marked trail and follow it to the left to the Chemin de Sainte-Croix and the chapel of the same name.
(9) Walk past the ruins of the chapel and then the pétanque car park, continuing along the Chemin de Sainte-Croix until you come to a wide road (Avenue François Billoux).
(10) Cross at the pedestrian crossing and continue straight ahead (Impasse de Sainte-Croix) to reach Avenue Jean Mailloulas. Turn left, continue along Avenue de la Pétanque past the cemetery, then onto Avenue Francisco Ferrer to emerge onto Boulevard Michelet.
(11) Cross at the pedestrian crossing, continue straight ahead, then go round the Post Office on the right via Rue Joseph David Badelon. At the end, turn left (Rue Michel Simon), then, opposite No. 54, turn right (Avenue du Maréchal Galliéni). You will reach Place Esquiros at a junction.
(12) Head straight across the square, then turn right opposite the church. Ignore Rue du Maréchal Joffre and take the street on the right (Rue Gueymard) to reach Quai Général de Gaulle and the harbour.
(13) Turn left onto thefirst street (Rue du Maréchal Foch) then turn right onto Rue Arnoux. Cross the small square diagonally to the right to reach Rue Canolle, which runs alongside the church. Follow it to the Tourist Office, which is opposite the Port Museum and is also the departure point for the bus to Marseille (E).
