Park in the car park at the Fontaine de la Duchesse.
(S/E) With your back to the road, take the path that climbs up to the ridge trail (GR®5, marked red-white-red).
(1) Turn right and follow the ridge path to pass above the Breitzouze farmhouse inn through the stubble, ignoring the path on the right that leads there, which will be the return route. Continue straight ahead, pass under the Kastelberg chairlift and reach the wooded area. After walking 100 m through the woods, you will come to afirst crossroads with several paths.
(2) Take the path slightly to the right (still following the red-white-red markings). Continue straight ahead as you leave the woods and pass above the Fershmus farmhouse and inn. A little further on, take the path slightly to the right, descending and passing below the Rainkopf-Louis Hergés refuge. Join the D430 (Route des Crêtes).
(3) Cross the Route des Crêtes with caution and, following the yellow and white signs, descend the path for 40 m (the path is quite steep for a short distance) then turn right, continuing to follow the signs. The path now follows the slope and joins the pastures.
Further down, leave the path that branches off to the right and take the path on the left that joins the Grand Bougre path (yellow cross sign on the left and yellow round sign on the right). Follow the yellow round signs on the right, continuing straight ahead for 250 m until you reach the small road (Chemin des Chaumes).
(4) Cross this road and take the path opposite on the right. Follow the yellow and white signs. Follow the slope and pass under a ski lift. About 300 m after the ski lift, leave the path and take the trail that descends to the right and joins the Lac de la Lande dam. Cross the dam.
(5) At the end, turn right and climb, following the blue and white signs, leaving the small path on the right that runs alongside the lake. Join another path higher up and continue straight ahead, still following the blue and white signs. Leave a small path that branches off to the right and continue straight ahead. Pass under the Lande ski lift and join a bend in the Lac de Blanchemer road.
(6) Take the road on the left, leaving the blue and white sign behind you as you climb. After 400 m, pass the road that leads to the Schmargult farmhouse inn.
(7) Cross over the Moselotte and continue straight ahead to join the Route des Crêtes. Continue along the Route des Crêtes until you reach the Breitzouse farmhouse inn.
(8) In the car park just before the Breitzouse farm, take the path that climbs up to the left. Keep following the path on the left (GR®5variant) until you reach the ridge path (GR®5red-white-red markings) and follow it to the left. After 400 m, turn left to rejoin the path that descends to the Fontaine de la Duchesse car park (S/E).
