From Boult-sur-Suippe to Bazancourt: nature spots in our villages

Park in the square in front of Boult-sur-Suippe Town Hall.

(S/E) Head south (towards Reims) and turn right around the school. Continue straight ahead, passing the remarkable La Pouplie tree. Then follow the small stream and cross to the other bank until you reach Allée du Cimetière. Take this road on the right until you reach Sainte-Croix Church.

(1) Go around the church on the left. Pass in front of the chapel, then turn left onto the bridge over the La Suippe river. Turn left onto the main road, leaving Rue du Bout du Rez on your left. Continue straight ahead for a few hundred metres until you reach the junction. Take the right fork onto Voie du Pont Nardenne, then take the path on the right, passing in front of the gardens and horse pasture. Cross the D74 with caution, continue along the road and further on you will reach a crossroads just before an electricity pylon.

(2) Turn right onto the dirt track and follow it along the edge of the woods. You will reach a tarmac road in the village of Bazancourt. Turn right and keep to the right, ignoring the two roads leading off to the left, and take the dirt track. At the tarmac road, turn left to reach the rear of Saint-Rémy Church in Bazancourt.
Note: this last section of the route will be retraced in the opposite direction a little further on.

(3) Turn left, pass in front of the Salle Marcel Prévoteau and then turn right onto Rue du Docteur Gibout. Follow this road to the intersection where you will find the war memorial. Turn right and cross the road. Cross the bridge over the Suippe. Take the footpath on the left and follow the Suippe to the Espace Culturel La Filature.

(4) Continue around La Filature and back over the Suippe. Take the footbridge and continue across the Square du^{21e Régiment}d'Infanterie Coloniale. Continue to the right along Rue Anatole France. Continue along the river, then turn left into Rue de la Fontaine Pignolet. At the park entrance, turn left to visit Notre-Dame des Malades.

(5) Return in the opposite direction to the park entrance, turn left onto Rue de la Fontaine Pignolet, located right next to the monument (to do this, retrace your steps to the park entrance and turn left to avoid climbing over the wooden railings). Continue towards the centre of the village. At the fork, take the left-hand lane along Rue Pasteur. Cross Rue de Roizy and take the^second street on the left to pass close to the Centre Culturel de la Grange and in front of Bazancourt Town Hall. Cross the square to reach the back of Saint-Rémy Church.

(3). Return to the section of Rue de la Passerelle you took earlier and continue walking above the Suippe river, passing in front of the Bazancourt Canoe-Kayak Sports Club.

(6) Continue to the intersection and turn right onto the D20. Quickly take the small road on the right until you reach the entrance to Gersheim Park.

(7) Turn right to make a circular route in Parc de Gersheim, but see the note in the Practical Information section.
Return to the entrance to Gersheim Park. Take Chemin des Ferrières on the right, which is a continuation of the road leading to the park. Stay on this path and then the road that follows it. At the^first fork, turn right, following the sign for the cul-de-sac for vehicles. Join Allée Marguerite Poirson and turn left to return to the car park at Place de la Mairie (S/E).

Wear shoes suitable for walking on dirt paths.
(7) Note: although marked, the circular path in Gersheim Park is optional and the visit can also be extended, for example by crossing the footbridge over the Suippe river at the bottom of the park.

Between (S/E) and (1) La Pouplie is a remarkable 37-metre-high tree located in the heart of the village. It was scheduled to be felled in 2019, but an association was set up to defend the tree. The town hall became the owner and since then the tree has been promoted. The tree is now entered in the French Tree of the Year 2020 competition.
(1) Near the Sainte-Croix Church in Boult-sur-Suippe, you can see a chapel with a distinctive style.
(3) The square in front of the Church of Saint-Rémy in Bazancourt is landscaped with plants and benches where you can take a break.
(5) Notre Dame aux Malades is placed on a rock with offerings in memory of a series of apparitions of the Virgin Mary that are said to have taken place there, as well as several healings attributed to her.
