Circular route from Witry-lès-Reims to Berru

Start at Place de la Mairie in Witry-lès-Reims. Due to works to improve access for disabled people, it is preferable to start and finish at Place Gambetta.

(S/E) Take Rue Léon Bourgeois, which joins the D151. Follow this road to the left to leave Witry.

(1) At the roundabout, turn right to go under the A34 motorway bridge. Take the first path on the right after the safety barriers. Ignore the old Roman road coming from the left. At the next junction, take the path opposite, slightly to the left. Continue south-west to the path before the high-voltage power line.

(2) At elevation 153, turn left (north-east) and follow the path to the high-voltage pylon (elevation 126). Then take the path on the right and cross the Noue de Caurel.

(3) At the T-junction, turn right. At the next T-junction, turn left. After about 300m, turn into the first path on the right. Head south-west to the high-voltage pylon.

(4) Turn left (south-east) and, after passing under the power lines, turn into the first path on the right and head towards the vineyards. Then turn left and follow the partially tarmac-surfaced path running alongside the vineyard.

(5) Cross the D980 and take the D264 road towards Nogent L'Abesse, which is slightly offset to the left. About 150m further on, at a fork in the road, take the left-hand road and follow it for about 1km. Before a three-way junction (at a place called La Gravière), turn right and follow the track to the D264 road.

(6) First turn left then right to take the path heading west-north-west along the edge of the vineyard. Stay on this path running alongside the vineyard (on your right) and head towards the entrance to Berru.

(7) Then follow Rue Stratégique to the right and, at the Fork in the road, turn left onto the same street. Cross the D980, continue straight ahead onto the D88 and follow this road for about 500m.

(8) Take the path on the left and walk alongside the small copse, which leads you to the edge of the Bois de la Perthe. Go round the edge of the woods on the right and, at the T-junction at the corner of the woods, turn left and walk alongside the woods on your left.

(9) At the corner of the woods at the other end, turn right (north-west) between the fields (hiking signs pointing towards Witry-lès-Reims). Pass under the high-voltage power line again.

(10) This time, cross over the A34 motorway and enter the village of Witry-lès-Reims via Rue de Crépy. Then turn right onto Rue de Reims (D151). Pass Rue Pasteur on the left, then turn left onto Place Gambetta. Then turn right onto Rue Boucton Favreux to reach the town hall (S/E).
