Red and white GR®59 markings and specific signs bearing the symbol "J"
(S) From your campsite, head to the town hall in Arc-et-Senans. With your back to the town hall, turn right to arrive in front of the Royal Saltworks. Turn left onto Avenue de la Saline, following signs for Cramans/Mouchard. Stay on this road and proceed with caution (no paths). After a little over 1.5 km, you will cross the Loue river. Continue to the intersection.
(1) Follow the signs for Champagne/Loue on the left. Follow the river on your left until you reach the small bridge over the Le Breu stream.
(2) Turn right (east) onto the farm track. At the fork, take the right-hand track and continue to the crossroads in the middle of the vineyards at La Combe Guideaux.
(3) Continue south on the slightly uphill gravel road, ignoring the side roads, and keep going in this direction until you reach a fork in front of a vineyard.
(4) Turn left (south-east) and continue to the intersection under a power line.
(5) Turn left (east) and, at the edge of the Bois Crot Bignot, head south and continue climbing until you reach the intersection with the D48E2.
(6) Turn left, then walk through the woods, heading south-east, after the bend. Continue along the tarmac road until you reach the signpost on the left at the bend.
(7) Stay on this paved road, slightly downhill, until you reach the signpost at the intersection (bench and display board).
(8) Turn right (south) and continue along the forest path, following the signs for Chapelle de Lorette/Port-Lesney. After about 100 metres, you can turn left onto the path that leads to the chapel. (10 mins there and back). Back on the GR®, continue south-east and go straight ahead until you reach the crossroads.
(9) Keep left towards Port-Lesney on a downhill path and continue to Rue du Château d'eau.
(10) Turn left, then quickly right, and continue along Rue du Ruisseau until you reach the signpost at the crossroads with Rue du Brillat.
(11) Turn left (north) onto the grassy path and go downhill until you reach the signpost on Route de Lorette.
(12) Follow the signs for Port-Lesney on the right, then turn left at the crossroads to cross the bridge over the Loue. (You can stock up on supplies at a bakery on the right before crossing the bridge).
(13) At the end of the bridge, turn right onto the D48. Continue to the fork at the 30 km/h speed limit sign.
(14) Continue right onto Chemin de Champagnole, then at the signpost, turn right and follow the signs for Rennes-sur-Loue. Stay on this road, which runs alongside a stream, then crosses it. At the fork, continue left, then after a left-hand bend, continue on the stony road that runs alongside the Loue. Continue on Chemin des Gabelous until you reach the fork.
(15) Continue along the Loue and its meanders on your right until you reach the bridges of Rennes-sur-Loue.
(16) Cross the two bridges and turn right onto the Route Principale, which is a no-entry road. You will enter the village of Rennes-sur-Loue. Continue to the crossroads at the town hall.
(17) Continue straight ahead (south) on Rue des Murailles Neuves. You will come to a stop sign.
(18) Cross the N83 with caution, then continue to the left of the cross, on Route de la Chapelle to leave the village of Rennes-sur-Loue. This small road quickly becomes Route de Rennes. After a long straight stretch, you will arrive at the entrance to the village of La Chapelle-sur-Furieuse. Continue to the crossroads with a fountain in the middle.
(19) Turn left and then right to stay on Route de Rennes. Continue to the stop sign at the intersection with the D467.
(20) Turn right and walk to the intersection before the fountain.
(21) Cross the D467 carefully, then follow the signs for Ivrey on the left. At the fork, quickly turn right onto Chemin du Bélieu, which climbs slightly. Continue south-east to leave the village of La Chapelle-sur-Furieuse. Continue to the fork.
(22) Keep left (southeast) on the path that climbs steeply and enters the Bellieu woods. Continue to the fork at the end of the curve on the left.
(23) Stay on this forest track, which climbs steeply and, after a right-hand bend, begins to descend towards the south-west. When you leave the forest, you will arrive in the village of Onay in front of a fountain.
(24) Follow the signs for Salins-les-Bains on the Route des Vignettes. Continue to the fork in front of a farm building.
(25) Take the road to the left of the electricity pole and start climbing alongside the edge of a wood. Continue to the fork at the top of the hill.
(26) Begin the descent which, after a left-hand bend, takes you to the Ruisseau La Pissouse.
(27) Cross it and, after a hairpin bend, continue south-east to arrive at the Beauregard vineyard. Continue downhill to the signpost at the intersection with Chemin de Saint-Joseph.
(28) Continue along Chemin de Saint-Joseph downhill to the crossroads upstream of the D472 and the Furieuse river.
(29) Turn left onto Chemin des Gabelous, which is blocked by a barrier. Continue to Chemin des Roussets d'Arelle opposite the Salins-les-Bains fire station.
(30) Turn right at the signpost, then at the stop sign, continue left onto Avenue Aristide Briand. Cross the town of Salins-les-Bains. Refreshments available at a bakery and supermarket.
Continue to the crossroads in front of Place du Souvenir Français.
(31) Turn left following the signs for the campsite, then quickly right to follow Place du Souvenir Français on your right and arrive at the entrance to Camping Le Salins les Bains (E)
