Park in the Ferme de Chey car park. (Ecomuseum) Signposted from the Nantes-Fontenay road, Roussille crossroads. South exit of Niort.
(It is also possible to start the hike from the Port of Niort)
(S/E) Take the road you came in on. At the bend, continue straight ahead on the path until you reach the right bank of the Sèvre Niortaise. Turn left and go under the road bridge.
(1) Go up the stairs on the left to reach Boulevard Willy Brandt. Cross the bridge and go down on the left on the other side to join the path that continues on the other bank of the Sèvre.
(2) Follow the path to the right, cross the footbridge (the TOPO IGN map is incorrect) and pass through the grove. At the road, go around to the left, passing in front of the car park.
(3) After crossing the canal, take the track on the left that runs alongside it to the Sèvre. Cross Avenue Pythagore and continue straight ahead.
(4) Turn right onto the path between the Sèvre and the meadow. Pass under the Boulevard de l'Atlantique bridge.
(5) Turn left. Cross a small bridge, then a first footbridge that leads to an islet. Then cross a second footbridge to reach Belle Île.
(6) Do not take the street on the left, but the path opposite that runs alongside a branch of the river. A little further on, leave the footbridge on the right and continue along the path to the left, which leads to the Quai de Belle Île.
(7) Follow Quai de Belle Île to the right.
(8) Turn left and, after the bridge, left again to take Quai Maurice Metayer. Continue along this street on the right bank. Pass under Boulevard de l'Atlantique again.
(1) Pass under the Boulevard Willy Brandt bridge and continue straight ahead.
(9) Turn right onto the path and head for the car park (S/E).
